AAMCO on Perry Highway is great. I've been going for years, and doing business with John. They have done a transmission, emissions and inspections, and all sorts of repairs over the years. I've never had an issue, and the excellent work and customer service keeps me coming back.

My experience with this garage was a positive one. I needed a transmission rebuild on my Ford Explorer. Besides an extended wait period for the repair, all went well. This minor inconvenience seems a small price to pay for the good work done. In fact my vehicle has never run better.

Highly recommend these guys for any work, from inspections to changing out an engine, these guys do a great job and are very honest and fairly priced. I used to use Fred's North Hills Auto right next door and he always had a great relationship with John. Fred was a great guy. Miss him.

Have been bringing my families cars to John for years. He and his crew have always been very professional and courteous. They only do the work that needs to be done and do it extremely well. If they can't do it, John recommends alternatives. I have never been disappointed and highly recommend him and his AAMCO.

I've been taking my family's cars for routine/emergency service to the North Hills AAMCO location for years. John and his team provide great service. John is professional and very easy to communicate with. He informs me of what services are required and ensures that our vehicles are repaired as quickly as possible. Had this shop recommended to me by a relative for a transmission issue I was having in my 1997 Ford F350. Spoke with John about it and he scheduled me in for a diagnosis very quickly (within a day or two), for which he indicated there would not be a charge unless the diagnostic extended beyond the basic tests. After diagnosis, he contacted me quickly to let me know that the extent of my damage would require the transmission to be rebuilt. The price he quoted me was in line with what others have quoted me in the past (actually slightly less). He was aware going into it that I might not end up having the repairs performed because of other body/rust issues that my truck had, and still did not treat me any different or charge me. In addition to this, I really agonized with whether or not to get the repairs done which required some time for me to sort out my best option. I told him I was leaning toward getting rid of the truck, but still considering repair. He allowed me to keep the vehicle at his shop while I determined what I was going to do (a few weeks), and did not charge me for that either. At the end of the day, I elected not to repair the truck and sold it to someone who would be able to work on the transmission themselves instead; however, based upon my experience, I would not hesitate to consider this shop in the future for repairs. I felt slipping in my 2016 Audi and feared the worst (transmission failure). John and his skilled mechanics diagnosed the problem as a much simpler issue, and likely saved me thousands of dollars. These guys are trustworthy, professional, and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

I was in a jam when my car wouldn’t start. My wife was out of town and my daughter had a few events she needed to attend. John, provided excellent customer service and got my car back on the road the next day. I received a military discount as well, ALL VETERANS TAKE YOUR CAR TO AAMCO.

I contacted Aamco Transmissions after my check engine light indicated a problem with the turbo in my vehicle. I spoke with John who fit me into their schedule, researched the problem, ordered the parts, and quickly fixed the problem. I can't say enough about this business. They've definitely made a return customer out of me, but I hope it's not any time soon. Thank you for a job well done.

I do not recommend dealing with John, the owner of the workshop. He has two sides when dealing with his customers, is not honest, and does not respect the customer, especially if the customer is from a different culture. I called him on 2021 for the purpose of repairing my car’s gearbox and told him that the problem required rebuilding the gearbox, and he told me that he would repair the car in Within one week, and after two weeks, I called him, and he told me that he did not find the spare parts for it, and he began to procrastinate and procrastinate for time, and after the agreement was that I would pay him $2,800, he raised the request to eight thousand dollars. He continued to procrastinate for three years, when I went to retrieve the car today on 01/19/2024 . He asked me for $280 in exchange for the diagnosis and keeping the car behind his building. When I told him that the amount was unreasonable, and that I was not responsible for leaving the car for three years, he hid the car key and did not give it to me, and closed the door in my face. Then I called the city police and they rushed to help me, and took $130 from me... When I wanted to start my car, I asked him for a battery jumper. He denied that he had one, but I found a jumper inside his workshop. That means he lied to me when he said he did not have one, but he did. He does not have enough experience to repair Subaru cars and modern cars. Stay away from him so you don't fall into the same trouble he got me into.

John and the team are extremely helpful and reliable. I’ve had a great experience on multiple vehicles for brake replacements, inspections and diagnostics as needed. Honest work, fair pricing and gives great input on what work needs done immediately and what can wait/isn't an issue. Great value and expertise, especially when you compare to cost/hassle and gouging you’d get from a dealership.

My manual transmission jeep broke down on 11/17 due to a broken gear shift linkage. Unfamiliar with the area, I had it towed to this garage. THIS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE! When calling for updates the first few days of my car being there, I was routinely brushed off with the same excuse that they were "waiting on the schematics from Chrysler" before they could begin examining my car. The "schematics" they showed me were literally a diagram of the Jeep Renegade gear shift components available on any Mopar store website. I was then told on day 5 of my car being there that the part needed was on back order until Jan 5th. Wanting to expedite the process, I got the part number from John, ordered it myself, and had it in my hands within 2 days. After dropping $128, I take it to John on 11/28 and find that he had given me the wrong part number. Not only this, he made it seem it was my fault that the part he needed (gear shift rod) was not included in the gearshift bracket he originally gave me the part number for. The gear shift rod was a completely different part number, blatantly shown on the schematics from Chrysler. He supposedly ordered the correct shift rod part and said it'd be in 12/4, so I again waited. Upon calling them this day about the status, I was again brushed off with a mindless response about them not knowing when the part would be in and that "they were at the mercy of Chrysler." This garage is so unreliable and undependable it makes me sick. My car was with this company for two and a half weeks and not one thing was done to help remedy the original issue, only exacerbate my frustration. I'm thankful I have Triple A and was able to tow my car to a much more knowledgeable, reliable, and efficient mechanic who had the issue fixed within 2 days. Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS GARAGE and all the hassle associated with this company. Nothing good can come from trusting your car with John or any of the mechanics working here who do not appear to know what they are doing.

I have reviewed a lot of places and this is the first place that I can say If I could give 0 stars I would. Shop would not warranty it’s own work so I declined service through my own autonomy. Shop quoted $400 over the price of another shop and I had to walk through with the mechanic explaining what part goes where and that’s when I realized I shouldn’t be going to this shop and went with another especially with a service that acquires attention to detail. Save yourself the money and the hassle by just not even stepping foot into this shop. They may have plaques all over the wall saying excellent service by “John” but that’s all a sham and they’ll just take your money. I was hung up on after trying to clarifying warranty with them. I’m new to this area and have never had a shop act like this and be so misunderstanding and confused of a project. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I was having some shifting trouble on my 2008 automatic Tacoma and like a rookie I took it to the Toyo dealership. They hooked up the diagnostics machine and left me a voicemail stating I would need a brand new $5000 transmission. After picking my jaw up off of the floor I decided to look at some transmission-specific shops. I called Aamco and explained the situation and the Salesperson told me that their technicians would start with the most obvious problems and work through - a total transmission replacement would be the last thing they recommend. The technicians at Aamco were able to determine that I had faulty transmission lines which were causing the issues and that they could replace the lines for well less than a total transmission replacement. Lines replaced, transmission fluid added, and she's running like a 2012 again! 12/10 would recommend. Thanks, Aamco!!!

Nothing but problems with these guys. Using cheap parts. Tried charging me 1100$ to replace an oil pan ($200 job). Took my door apart to replace something and now the handle is coming off. The list goes on. Save yourself the headaches and money.

In the afternoon of the Friday of the 4th of July weekend we experienced what we thought were transmissions problems with our Dodge Caravan. We stopped at a local Dodge dealer to see about the problem and the service representative said that they could run a diagnostic test for $189.00 but that it would be several days before they could work on the car. Next we stopped at the dealership where we bought the car (not a Dodge dealership) and their service department said it could be a transmission problem but they couldn’t handle it and we should visit an AAMCO dealer down the road. We followed their suggestion and went to the AAMCO center at 8436 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, Pa 15237. We were greeted in a friendly manner and even thought they were very busy John, the owner, asked us if we could wait about 20 minutes and then they would be happy to look at the car and evaluate the problem. After their evaluation we learned that we did not have a transmission issue but that the computer simply had to be rebooted. One hour later we were on our way and had been charged only $89.00 to perform the diagnostic test. We can’t thank John and his staff enough for their willingness to help us. They were all polite, professional, friendly and efficient. We highly and with out reservations recommend the total car experts at the AAAMCO office on Perry Highway.

The main manager John was helpful, they did tell me I need some extra things like a possible steering rack and pinion, breaks which I did. A battery and a shift cable, but they where very vauge with the transmission, told me it flutters in 2nd and they didn’t get a good road test but after driving it still slips gears or shifts super hard

Wouldn't change my tyranny fluid because my one car has 160,000 miles on it, I have done it with 200,000 on my car in the past, I own Hondas that have bullet proof trans. Plus my sister had hers done at aamco in Lancaster,pa with her toyota that had 188,000 miles on it.......
