This guy is very bad business I paid him $600 to hook up a wire to take off my check engine light after I drove 100 mi my check engine light came on for the same code that I just had him fix but I tried to go back to him to say hey look it's popping up he said it's not his problem I already drove off with the car very rude I don't know I don't know why he's in business how he's in business very bad business this guy is very disrespectful sad I wouldn't recommend my enemy to this place

WOW 💯 ripped me off !! Do not come here! 💯 Came here to get work done a month later my check engine light comes on and the same code that he supposedly fixed pops back on I take the car back to him and he tells me he fixed it! THAT I must have ripped it out!! WTH yeah I ripped it out cuz I'm so bored with my life and I love wasting my HARD earned money!!! That's the only thing I find funny about it.... 🤯 He was rude, unprofessional! He took my money and ripped me off!! Stay away from this scammer!!

Super rude owner , its coast $250 radiator they charged me $1375. I never ever forgot, they cheated me. I’m going to inform to the public if you need emergency then go there otherwise find out somewhere else or deal first how much ? Then give to car otherwise that person will charge you whatever he like ! If you say that’s too much they will call you police & say this is my business!! Super rude behavior I never go back that’s place in My life!!!

The Volvo dealership I go to didn't have any appointments available for a few months so I came here to get the oil changed on my Volvo xc90 2017. It was the only place that had the Castro oil necessary for my vehicle. Highly recommend this place. The cost was $139 on October 21, 2024 and it took less than an hour.

2024 - I wanted to update my post - I have continued to go to Auto Express since my previous post, now having John and staff (Phil) service my 2015 Ford Escape at 90k miles. As usual, John was informative about not just service called for at this point, but also common sense care recommendations going forward now that our Escape is getting older. In addition to the plugs replacement, coolant flush, transmission flush and change, they also diagnosed the problem causing engine vibration - a failed motor mount. Continued 5 stars! 2016 - I have taken my 2002 Jetta and 2002 Ford F150 to Auto Express and have had a good experience both times. John and his staff are great, they are the real deal - no-nonsense car repair at a fair price. John's estimates were considerably less than those I received from other large and small shops. John takes the time to explain the issues. I'm glad to have found Auto Express.

This place is great! I was recently referred to John here for some automotive services. I was quoted for some services by the dealership and John helped me understand that I was getting completely taken advantage of! They quoted me for services that I absolutely did not need and he really took the time to show me what was really going on with my car. After leaving it with him for a couple hours (thinking I needed to have my front control arms replaced and an alignment) John showed me it was completely unnecessary and I had one bad tire that was causing my car problems. So he threw in a tire rotation in with the $59 diagnosis fee (which is still such a deal since I’ve definitely paid $150+ at other places) He had also pointed out that my back shocks were leaking and gave me a really fair and affordable quote for the work that needed to be done. Which, is still saving me at least $100 from the quote I would have paid the dealership for a job I didn’t need and wouldn’t have even solved my problem. I highly recommend this shop for any auto services. It’s hard to come by a place that’s affordable, and will take the time to educate you about what your car. I will definitely be going back for all my automotive needs!

Does not work to find the actual solution to your problem. Guesses at the problem. I paid for several fixes, disputed one of them. My problem, overheating, was not fixed by them and when I tried to have a conversation with them for a refund, they couldn’t hold a respectful conversation. Instead told me I was a fraudster. The also replaced my exhaust manifold which 2 other auto shops have told me still has a problem. So I definitely don’t think IM the fraudster in this situation. The owner also hit on me asking me to come late to the shop for a beer, oh the joys of being a woman.

Have 2 vehicles and bought bot into John 2010 Lincoln Mkz had a Evn computer problem…he diagnosed and replace a very difficult computer chip. With My 2005 Ford Taurus had an issue with high idling and was having major issues with. Fuel economy he fixed the issue and replaced wiring with spark plugs. Also diagnosed my AC which had been out over a year and removed excess oil from AC and found the leak

I had a few mechanical issues with my Fiat 500. I stumbled across this shop and it turned out to be a great experience. It's hard to find a shop to work on my Fiat, especially at a decent cost. He sat me down, explained the issues thoroughly and gave my options. His prices were much lower than other shop's quotes. He even got my windshield replaced at a low cost. He has a good mechanic working with him. They are very very honest and reasonable. I highly recommend talking to them about any vehicle issues.

I was having brake problems with my model 3 Tesla . I made an appointment at Firestone and they didn’t want to check them. I went to auto express downtown Sacramento and he didn’t hesitate to check it . Auto express was inexpensive and honest about my brake condition and rotor condition. They inspected and said I had good rotors and brakes but that because of my braking mechanism and dirt accumulated over the years, it was making those squeal noises . Auto express is my go to with my Tesla service . Tesla dealership couldn’t get me in on the same day . Auto express was efficient and honest

I am a repeat customer of John's and have just gone to him for a smog test. His new location is just as good as the old one and the other customers I saw today were also loyal patrons on a first-name basis. John is always quick, honest, and I appreciate how comfortable he makes me feel as a female client. It's always nice to chat with him about family and his 30+ year business. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

I highly recommend this shop. My car was losing oil and other shops had no idea how to fix it and I was spending money on things that weren’t working. Came to Auto Express and the issue was diagnosed right away and a plan was given to correct the problem over time and at the least cost possible and without having to get a new car. Also fixed other issues so my car could pass smog. My son brought his car as well and had issues fixed to pass smog. I won’t take my car anywhere else again, every time I did I regretted it.

After a few VERY bad experiences with other mechanics, I'm so happy that I met John who actually fixed the issues my car was having in 1 visit! Quality, honest service and extremely fair pricing. Highly recommend this shop. Brought my daughter’s 2016 BMW in for a smog test. It had an engine light on. He explained what was wrong, what was needed as far as repairs and what could wait until later, repaired what was wrong quickly and it passed the smog test when I returned. We will be back for an upcoming needs!

I'm extremely pleased with the work John did for me! While driving my 2007 Toyota Highlander Limited Hybrid, I struck a wooden crate that fell out the back of a truck, which cracked the condenser and radiator, and damaged the cooling fan. John was able to quickly diagnose the issue and gave me a reasonable quote. Unfortunately, the complete cooling fan assembly is discontinued, but they were able to salvage most of the assembly and order parts from the dealer. I was also overdue for a rear brake change and an oil change, which they were able to accommodate. Exceedingly satisfied with their work, can't recommend these guys enough!

John/Auto Express is going to be my go-to mechanic in downtown Sacramento. The check engine light came on in our old '99 Tacoma due to a cylinder misfire. He is very kind and took time to explain how engines work and what exactly was wrong, as well as routine maintenance we missed that may have even caused it (extremely old/worn spark plugs). He then gave us several different options at varying price points. He never pushed us to do the most expensive thing and even warned it wouldn't really raise the value of the truck if our goal was to sell it. He also told me about a California retired vehicle program that I didn't know about where we could get money for it when it failed smog if we didn't want to fix it. And he warned me about liability for failing smog and what to put in a contract if we sold on the private market. Overall an extremely knowledgable, honest, trustworthy mechanic. Don't hesitate to bring your vehicle here!

John has been my go-to mechanic for over 5 years now - ever since I rolled onto his lot in need of a smog check, but finding out that the services Auto Express offers extend well beyond that. He and his staff have serviced both my Subaru WRX and my GMC Sierra 2500 for every need that has ever come up with either of them - smog, oil changes, the random wonky engine stuff that needs expert attention, new brakes - ALL of it. This morning I went by his old shop to do a drop-in smog check and seeing that the lot was vacant - I was despondent - UNTIL I called him and found out that he'd simply moved to his new location (now at 615 15th). It is no small thing to have a mechanic that you TRUST - and that is who John and his staff are to me. Their diagnostic skills are excellent. They always provide options when repairs are needed. Costs are up front. And the work is always prompt and stellar. And they are super friendly to boot! Very, very glad John is in business and he will continue to be my mechanic for the long haul. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 😊

Refused to re-smog my car without charging me $60 again even though California Law clearly states he is obligated to. Would not recommend.
