Extremely disappointed with Big O Tires in Santa Cruz after years of loyalty and over $10,000 spent on tires with them. Their service has taken a significant downturn, and I will not be returning. Here's why: Deceptive Diagnosis: My wife took her car in for an oil change and tire rotation. They claimed she had a "massive coolant leak" and needed a $1,000 water pump replacement. I decided to pass on the repair. When I picked up the car, there was no mention of a water pump issue on the paperwork. I filled the coolant myself, and the car has been running perfectly fine ever since. Unnecessary Tire Replacement: My wife's tire had a hole in it, and I used a can of sealant to bring it to their shop. They told us we had to buy a new tire for $235 because of the sealant. Took the car to another tire shop—they patched it for $30, and it’s been working perfectly. Ridiculous Tire Policy: My son recently went in for an oil change and tire rotation. They refused to rotate and balance his tires, claiming they were "too old" (over six years) even though the tires have no cracks and are in great shape. They tried to push for a full replacement, which was completely unnecessary. This shop has lost its integrity and seems more focused on upselling than honest customer service. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere and encourage others to do the same.

So impressed, my daughter had a hard and traumatic experience with a tow truck and other tire shop who could not get her stripped lug nuts off. I called Big O Tires and they were ready for her with replacement studs and then because of the experience the night before they didn’t charge her. As a dad who couldn’t be there because she is going to college in Santa Cruz. I was so grateful for their care of my daughter and her car.

I called Big O Tires and spoke to Kyle. They did not have the tire I picked out online but Kyle helped me find one in my price range. He let me know they were on hand and we could come down anytime to get them installed. I would definitely recommend this Big O Tires.

Don’t trust their time estimates. Said it would take an hour and a half, I came back after two, they hadn’t even started. Said it would be another 20min, then it took an hour.

I can’t believe that in 2024 I have to deal with men like their employees and owner. Dismissive, condescending, sexist - I just want tires bruh. I know it’s a crazy idea that some women maintain their own cars, so drop the sexism and quickly. Here’s the part where I will get the same boiler plate response from the owner that you see on the negative reviews. HE IS THE PROBLEM

Don’t get your car/truck aligned here if you have special upper control arms. I came in to get new tires and was hesitant to get another alignment done by the shop because they messed it up in the past but the man at the front desk said it would be no problem. I have a 2 inch lifted Tacoma with SPC upper control arms. After waiting a few hours they told me they’re unable to get my cars alignment, correct. When I looked at the upper control arms after they did the “alignment”, it was clear to see that they did not even attempt to adjust the caster setting on the upper control arm.

Twice I've been in for a screw/flat tire and twice they've told me I needed a new tire (two a minimum as you can only replace tires on new cars in pairs). First time I fell for it and spent $500 on two tires. Second time they told me I needed all 4 replaced at $1100. Big O didn't even look at the screw they just saw my other tires and said they were "bald on the outside" and so I would need all 4 replaced. It should be my choice to decide this, when the wheel with the screw was easily repairable. So the second time after they told me this, I went to another tire shop, out the door in 30 minutes and for $30 got it repaired. I'll look at getting them replaced before rain comes, but in the summer they are perfectly fine. I will not be going back to Big O, this mom and pop shop now has my business. I urge everyone to go to mom and pop shops over these big corporations that all they care about is the money.

This Big O store in Santa Cruz has treated me fairly for almost 10 years going there for tire purchases, rotations and alignments. The very first time I went there as a new car owner inquiring about tires, the owner of the shop was very nice at explaining my options, pricing, and answering all my newbie questions with patience and without judgement (unlike some other tire stores in town that didn't have the time or willingness to discuss the subject with me and even dismissive and with attitude). The owner's positive attitude sold me on buying tires from this Big O. And even a Tire Alignment package. I have been a loyal customer ever since of Big O Tires. And after almost a decade of going to many different Big O stores around the country, I have to say this Santa Cruz Big O is run with more care and diligence than other stores. Other Big O branch managers could learn a lesson about customer service from this one. Almost every time I have gone for service the owner has been at the store, showing that he is present and overseeing the operations and not just an absentee franchise business man living off the brand name. He is what gives the brand name a good reputation. Fair pricing, good service, no upselling pressure tactics. It's a simple formula. And that's why this store is always full with their 8 bays and dozens of mechanics busy at work all day every day. Thank you.

My wife and I were on vacation in santa cruz and we found out we had a flat tire luckily were able to make it to this local Big O. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and we ended up needing both rear tires replaced they estimated an hour got it done in half an hour maybe less. Even though all the bays were full so they were pretty busy. Just overall made what was a pain while on vacation into an awesome experience.

I was absolutely taken care of today. I came in with a few things I've put off on my car, and from the beginning, Kyle Spoorenberg was attentive, listening to my life stuff, and vibed as such a real person. James Jackson was so sweet and gave me updates as I waited for repairs, and Tony Cartagena made my checkout comical and fun♡ Thank you so much Big O Tires. You've hired some real men who are obviously happy or at least super content with what they do. I appreciated their professionalism and the fact that I could be real with then and they reciprocated it. Thank you so much to the men who fixed my window and let me bug them to ask questions♡♡♡ For those waiting, there are cubical with plugs to do work and Staff of Life is super close in walking distance. I was able to go to 24 Hour Fitness, asking for a Day Pass.

Great service and a great deal! We were in and out in just a couple of hours on a Friday. Every other quote was over $1300 and we got 4 tires installed with an alignment for under $1000 at Big O 😁

I always bring my vehicles here. Excellent mechanics. Not just tire service. Staff is awesome. From oil changes to full parts replacement this is the place. They don’t take appointments so if you get there when they open there may be 7 other people already waiting in line.

IDIOTS working here. HORRIBLE customer service. They said my vehicle was ready to go. Upon arrival, my vehicle was inside their garage and blocked by vehicle B with from behind. No tires installed on mine and 2 tires missing on vehicle B. I waited until vehicle B's 2 tires were reinstalled to ask the mechanic to release my vehicle before he started removing the other 2 tires on vehicle B. This mechanic told me to speak to staff inside. When I came out, the mechanic had already removed the other 2 tires and started laughing. I had already waited 30 min for 2 tires to get reinstalled on vehicle B. Now I had to wait another 1.5 HOURS to finally get my vehicle back.

Just had my special order tires installed here. Jaun was a great salesperson, very knowledgeable and friendly, and helped me get exactly the tires I wanted. They gave me a good deal and then did the installation quick and professional. Will be back very soon for tires on my wife's car.
