I’m new to the area and I found this place and thought with mostly good reviews. My first visit was when my check engine light had been on for almost 2 weeks and turned itself off. They explained to me why the light came on and that since it turned itself off they didn’t want to assume anything. I left my car there for a day because they said they were still diagnosing it. Then they text saying the vehicle was done, however they never told me a price. I called them right away to find out how much I would be charged. They told me it wasn’t an immediate problem and not to worry. They did not charge me and left all the information about the light on the invoice. I live about 2 miles from there and it was worth the uber charge. Oh and even the mechanics were so nice moving cars because it was blocked in. Like I said I’m new to the area and finding an auto shop is one less thing I need to worry about. I was very happy when I left. It’s been my go to place since then.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!! AVOID THIS PLACE!! Came here to replace my car battery because my regular, reputable auto shop is in the suburbs and I did not want to drive that far. Replaced my battery at Chicago Auto Repair on 9/8/22 and my car would not start on 11/13/2024!!!! Took my car in to my regular auto shop and was told it's a bad battery and that I already need a new one. (And no I did not leave a light on in my car.) Would give 0 stars if I could.

I love this auto shop, they have been working on my car for years and always do great work for affordable prices. As I live closer to other auto shops I’ve tried others but always end up coming back to this one. I know nothing about cars and I fully trust them to not rip me off or take advantage. Highly recommend!

This is the second time I've gone to this shop. Yes the price point is higher than you may find other places but they run a tight ship. They are thorough, kind, respectful, and honest. I have very limited knowledge of cars and I haven't ever felt judged or taken advantage of by these folks.

Chicago Auto Repair is hands down the best in the city! They delivered top-quality service! I’m from out of town and they saved me from getting stranded I was beyond grateful for their quick response! From a full checkup before traveling to more serious repairs, the team was thorough and professional. Ken, the service writer, is especially helpful—he kept me informed. I’ve been coming to Chicago auto repair for years!! As you know- It’s such a relief to find an auto mechanic that you can trust let alone be within walking distance. I have a 2006 Sequoia that’s hard to find parts for but Jimmy always pulls through. The service is fast and the prices are reasonable with today’s inflated economy. I also bring my 2019 Rover Sport for its occasional oil changes and wear and tear parts to save $$ compared to the dealership, but more importantly I trust their work. Their waiting area is super clean and hosts a fancy cappuccino machine I’ve yet to figure out lol. All of my friends that i send to Jimmy have nothing but good experiences to report back. Thanks for keeping my reputation intact haha! These guys are great!!!

This place saved me! I had a road trip to go on when my check engine light started flashing and they took my car and fixed it within two hours with absolutely no notice. I will never go anywhere else. Super friendly and trustworthy.

Came into Chicago Auto Repair for a quote on my 2016 Mercedes S550 for an oil leak. The dealer had quoted me $3,200 to fix it. Chicago Auto Repair was significantly cheaper and also found a second leak in which the dealer had not told me about under their inspection. Chicago Auto Repair took a picture of the gasket and had fixed at no charge because there was no extra labor involved. All I had to do was pay for the part! Avoid the dealer at all costs and bring your luxury vehicles for repair here for a fraction of the price.

Chicago Auto Repair does a great job. I have been going to them for years now. It is the first time i have actually trusted a mechanic and been extremely satisfied with their work. Most recently i had a large damage to my front bumper and hood. For context i had a white car black bumper due to a previous mechanic’s poor job. Not only did they fix it completely at a very very good price, they changed my bumper to white new paint etc and cleaned the inside of my car entirely and all the tires etc!!!! Completely outside the scope of the original job but done just for the sake of doing a good job in itself. The most amazing repair job I’ve ever seen. The car looked transformed and felt like a new vehicle. The kindest act of going above and beyond that completely made my day. Ive never been so happy after a mechanic has worked on my car. Usually the experience is quite stressful but at Chicago Auto it is smooth, reliable and impressive. I hope to continue doing business with them and i owe them many thanks for their great work.

I have been going to this place for about 4 years, I initially started going because I was looking for a place to get my car repaired, I looked at different places with reviews, and the ones that stood out more for me in this place was honesty, I decided to give them a try and since day one they have not disappointed, I have been completely satisfied with their inspections and services, if I could give them more stars I would, I encourage people to try for yourselves, great job guys!!!

I should have posted this awhile ago. I was recently just thinking of what happened and wanted to warn other people so they don’t get scammed. I think it’s important to protect the community and warn them about predatory actions. Last year around Christmas time I took my van in for a routine checkup and to get a belt replaced. They consequently texted me a video of my van lifted up them wiggling my tire around and telling me I needed new front end suspension immediately. They were asking me for $1600 and told me it was not safe to drive and I had to respond immediately to let them know or they were closing for Christmas. It seemed so fishy to me that a mechanic would text me a video and try a hard pressure sale like that so boldly but they had good reviews so I almost went with it. They knew I was driving home for Christmas to Michigan soon and I feared they were taking advantage of that and trying to scare me by making me feel pressured to do it. Thankfully I did not tell them to do it. I drove my van back to Michigan and let my trusted mechanic check it out. He gave the car a whole look over said everything was actually looking good and took care of everything for a couple hundred bucks. I would stay away from these guys. Updated 10/29: yes this happened at Chicago auto repair on Chicago Ave. I’ve lived here for years I know the exact location. They are pretending like this did not happen and that “they are not the ones on Clark” (trying to put the blame on some other shop on Clark). I can provide details of the video I was sent if necessary to whomever. The video speaks for itself. Extremely shady business practices.

I took my car in at 8 am. I was told it would be ready at 3 pm. Received a text before 1 pm. Car was done. Very professional. Reasonable prices. Will definitely go back for my oil changes. Good job mechanic!!

Our van overheated, we were on our way home ( a 250 mile trip). They were able to get us in and on our way the same day. We called 5 other dealerships and shops who all said we would have to wait 2-3 days. They were pleasant and very professional!!

Absolutely terrible location. Charging $110 for a code reading without doing any actual diagnostic work. But only told me the code reading costs $110 after telling me it would actually cost $1500 for just a diagnosis. They just trap your car there then make up costs for you to get it back with no communication on actual costs. Then called to get mad at me for leaving a bad review rather than having good policies and communication. Then threatened to start charging me fees for leaving it there strictly because of the bad review. Absolutely fragile egos. Maybe actually do $110 worth of inspections and your price would be justified? And don’t call people who give bad reviews crying 😂

Great team and business. Quick and great service! Although I was not happy with the bait and switch. Called in the day before got an estimate. Drove ONE HOUR in the heat without an AC all the way down to their location in the city only to find out the person who gave me was not there and the one who was there gave me a different higher $$$ one, my fault should’ve asked for in writing, but still that is not nice to give someone a wrong estimate!! Appreciated their store very nice and clean with a comfortable waiting area (waited there 5-6hrs) very professional staff. I believe they did good quality work. I would go back, but this time I will request a written quote!

I've had a very pleasant experience with Chicago Auto Repair and will definitely be a loyal customer for the years to come. Several auto repair shops I went to would tell me things were wrong with my car when there wasn't, would charge me outrageous prices, and were not honest just to close deals and make sales. Chicago Auto Repair fixed the issue that I have been having for months that no one was able to solve, charged me a very normal amount, and were honest about what was wrong with my car. They are decently priced and trustworthy. Highly recommend

These guys fixed my AC in under an hour. Turns out it just needed a recharge, and now it blows ice cold air. I walked in without an appointment on a scorching hot day, and they accommodated me right away. The price was very reasonable, too. Now I understand why they have such amazing reviews.
