I've brought in my motorcycle to Cycle Metrics twice now and I couldn't be more satisfied. Each time I've left with a bit that feels fresh off it's first break in. No padded work, only what's needed, which my wallet appreciates. I won't be taking my Tiger to anyone else.

The BEST motorcycle mechanic in town. Gary is one of the best mechanics I have ever met. Technically, my Suzuki Burgman is not a motorcycle, but a scooter, but it'll go 80 mph on the freeway, and I use it like a bike. I called ahead to ask if it was something he could work on. I usually do most of my own work, but this issue had me stumped. The rear wheel was very slightly binding up somehow, and releasing, making a clicking sound. When I described it on the phone, Gary asked: "Does it click once with every revolution of the wheel?" Now, that's a great question, since it narrows it down somewhat. It did correspond to each wheel rotation, so Gary suggested that it could be a valve stem hitting the frame. I was sure it was more complicated than that, since I had already checked things pretty thoroughly. In the end, I was pretty surprised by the detective work Gary did to figure out what the problem was. When I came to pick it up he asked if I had replaced the rear tire myself, or taken it to a shop. (I’d had a shop do it.) Then, he explained that the tires on this bike are pretty hard to get off, and that in so doing, the technician might have set the wheel on the ground to work on it and slightly warped the rear brake disk. The warping was visually imperceptible, about 8% off. It was something that he was able to determine using a special measuring tool. Now, I have been pretty good backyard mechanic for most of my life, and I have a couple thousand dollars worth of tools, but this device is one that I don't have. Although I like to think of myself as pretty good at working things out, I probably could have spent days on this issue and never figured it out. Yet Gary returned my bike to me in perfect working order in just a few hours--while also working on other people's bikes as well. Not only did he fix this issue, but he checked my front brake pads and found them to be 98% worn out. (I had been remiss in checking this myself.) He not only replaced the brake pads, but he found that the recommended replacement pads as noted online was wrong, but quickly realized that a standard part that he had in his own stock would fit perfectly. Now, disk brake pads are usually simple to replace, and this is a task that I might have undertaken myself. But I would have been stymied by the incorrect information online as provided by the manufacturer and the bike would have sat disassembled in my garage for DAYS while I worked through the issue waiting for replacement parts to come via Amazon. Gary handled in minutes what might have taken me days or even a week or more to muddle through. He also changed the brake fluid, and even washed the bike. It was gleaming when I picked it up. Cycle Metrics is a clean, well organized, and totally well run place, with the best bike mechanic you could hope to meet. The ONLY small inconvenience about the shop is also part of its charm: It’s a bit off the beaten track, on a sleepy country road, more than 2 miles from the nearest public transit, so plan ahead for that. Also, FYI: Cycle Metrics doesn’t accept credit cards; cash or check only. All told, I was delighted with this business. Gary is an amazing mechanic and a very kind and helpful businessman. My bike has never run better! PS: Looking through the other reviews I found that the only one that was less than 5 stars is by an incoherent troll who has never done business with Cycle Metrics, and has never even been to the shop! Such reviews shouldn't be allowed.

Fantastic neighborhood shop! Gary has maintained my Suzuki DR650 bike now for 5+ years and all his work has been really outstanding. I really trust him to make sure my bike is ready for the next adventure.

The absolute go-to for motorcycle repair. Highly recommended.

Had a few things I wanted put on my bike (new tires, frame sliders, etc). Gary went above and beyond and tightened my chain, lubed it, replaced the brake fluid, and topped off the oil… in addition to all the things I needed! Best of all? The bike runs AMAZING!!! Switching from Triumph, to Kawasaki, I’m so happy I found a go-to mechanic I can trust. That’s both local and isn’t corporate owned. Highly recommend!

Gary just got my Honda TRX 450ER running again. If you are looking for a professional mechanic that pays great attention to detail and can get your bike running, Gary is the guy your lookin for! Gary's level of skill is unmatched by anybody ive run into in the last 40+ years riding bikes. His prices are more than fair for the level of skill and quality of workmsnship. I highly recommend him to anyone you wont be sorry. Thanks, Gary

Best mechanic ever! We were in a time crunch and both my sons had bikes other shops would not work on due to being in the late 1990's (don't get me started on what I think of that policy). Not only did he work on them, he got them in quick, fixed amazingly well, with an exceptional attention to detail, and it was all done for a fair price. There is not enough good I can say about this shop!

Called to ask about a tire, gave a straight and honest answer, and while I hope he is wrong that no one has the part I'll be happy I already ordered one I can still cancel

Found this shop randomly online and took my bike in for an annual safety check and repair of the speedometer. Great guy that owns it. He said he's been there 38 years just doing what he loves and it shows. Fair price. Great work. Highly recommend this place. I'll be a repeat customer.

I haven’t had my bike in here yet, but guy said over the phone my bike was “rough” without seeing it. Seemed uninterested in the work. Didn’t ask about what I wanted done after I told him it was missing a tube from carb to air box. I’m surprised at this response since the rest of the reviews seem solid. Was also told not to bring it in until October. As of writing it is aug 21 will update to 4-5 stars if they perform good work

This guy is legit. Gary has helped me several times with advice. He has on several occasions, talked me out of doing something that would have made him money, but he assessed was the wrong thing to do. A rare characteristic. I will always come back to Cycle metrics when I need bike work done.

This is THE guy!

Y'all! After having my 2009 Honda Shadow with super low miles for 4 years, I have finally found THE PLACE to have it serviced! I have been told "NO" from multiple shops due to the "age" of my bike. I found this amazing man after an emergency happened the day before a 3 day motorcycle camping trip. Long story short, an issue that was off an on and didn't seem like a huge deal, made my bike not start the day before my trip. Not only did he diagnose an issue that I had (that no one else wanted to touch) is less than an hour, he had it fixed the very next morning. Additionally, he went ahead and addressed little things to make my bike run even better and didn't charge an obscene price. I will be taking my bike to Gary from now on! Thank you Gary!!!

Gary is a great guy, and the best mechanic. Brought my vintage 78’ bike in again after 9 years for another overhaul. I wouldn’t take it to anyone else.

Gary got my bike back up to snuff after 3 years in storage. Runs like the day I got it. He charges a fair price and turnaround was timely. I'm very pleased with the work he preformed.

Gary is a great. He has worked on several different bikes (and cars) for me, routine maintenance to custom metal work. 👍👍

Gary is awesome! His attention to detail and knowledge is impressive. We have used him for years. We bring our bikes all the way from Battle Ground WA just to have him do the work. We highly recommend his work!

Gary is the man! By far one of the best motorcycle mechanics in the Portland Metro area, if not the state. He has always been friendly, honest, and straight forward. There are not a lot of shops that are willing to work on older dirt bikes 25+ years old but Gary has helped me with two older vintage bikes while other shops and dealerships have turned me away. Great guy, great service, and great experience!

Dec 07, 2021

He did a great job and quicker than I expected.

Dec 07, 2021

He does great work. I take all my bikes there.

I made an appointment for a tire change, then my tire got held up by a major storm. Gary had no problem rescheduling my appointment when it arrived. I dropped my bike off in the morning for the new tires and had it back in the early afternoon. He noticed a couple mechanical issues with my clutch, and when I said I'd probably handle it myself he gave me recommendations on which brand to use. While he was changing my tire, he also corrected a few minor errors a dealership made when reinstalling my hard bags. While I just had my tire changed this time around, I would trust him to do more critical work that was outside of my abilities. Also, Gary, you said I'd thank you about the kickstand, and yeah. It's night and day. It came that way so I never knew any better. So.... thank you.

If you have a motorcycle and your not a customer at Cycle Metrics your wasting your money on service and repairs. Lol

Dec 07, 2021

My son just bought his first bike and we needed to get a number of things on it fixed, as well as stuff fixed that we simply did not know to fix (we are both new to bikes). We picked Cycle Metrics because it was close to where we live. We are very grateful we did. The owner, Gary, was so very helpful and kind to my son and me. He fixed everything that needed to be fixed, tuned it up and sat us down to tell us some basics on maintenance. Finally, he recommended to my son that he take the Oregon motorcycle class even though my son has a scooter. We hadn't considered it, but thanks to Gary, my son has decided to take the lesson before he starts riding. I support this decision and I am very grateful to Gary for it.
