This happened awhile ago but still merits a review. Our Volvo kept stalling and we took it to 2 other shops that said the alternator was going, but said they don't work on foreign cars. The last place told us to bring our car to European Motor Werks on Sutherland. We asked them to check the alternator, but was told they would have to keep it overnight. The next day we get a call saying that there was nothing wrong with our alternator. They told us we will need our coolant expansion tank replaced soon - something we didn't ask them to look at - and that we should get our oil changed - we were over 200 miles from needing an oil change at the time, but I asked them how much it would cost and they charge double what we normally pay. We declined and when we went to pick up our car they said they "felt bad" for charging us when they didn't do anything, and then charged us $139.84. The first 2 garages diagnosed and checked our alternator for free! The problem with our car persisted so I ordered a new alternator, watched some youtube videos, changed it myself, and a couple years later it still running great with no battery issues. The moral of this story is: don't take your car here unless you know exactly what's wrong with it and tell them to fix exactly what you want. We will not be back here for any of our cars, and found another place to work on our Volvo when a strut mount had gone bad.

I've been taking my Volvo for repairs for 13 years now. I just don't think about saying something on Google for his excellent job until today. I highly recommend Ken for someone who is looking for a trustworthy mechanic. He was highly recommended when I moved to Knoxville 13 years ago. I completely understand why he has such a good reputation.

Ken is the best mechanic around. He has worked on my Volvo 240 since I got it around 5 years ago. He is so kind, honest, and hard working. I would never take my car anywhere else. So grateful to have found him!

This is the ONLY place I’ll take our Subaru Forester XT. Ken is a trustworthy, skilled mechanic who I know can handle any job. He’s also a very nice person to deal with, a harder thing to find these days now more than ever. If you’re looking for a mechanic you can come back to again and again, European Motor Werks is the place for you.

Luke was incredibly efficient, professional, and helpful. I went in with a check engine light on my Volvo and within 5 minutes he figured out the problem, fixed it, and sent me on my way. I’ll be back next time I have a car problem.

On the second day of a recent trip from North Carolina to the Great Smoky Mountains I realized the PCV valve on my Volvo needed to be replaced. Knoxville was the closest town that could receive the part and repair. I reached out to several shops in the area for quotes and European Motor Werks was the only one who could get me in and repaired same-day and for the best price. Ken was calm and knowledgeable and basically saved me a ton of stress on a trip that I took to getaway and de-stress. Can't thank Ken and his crew enough. I highly recommend this business!

Ken does a great job and goes the extra mile. As newly weds, Ken previously kept our old Volvos and a BMW running in a cost effective manner. Now with a new 16 yr old driver in the family, we have another old BMW we are entrusting him with. Solved the problem, provides good advice, and makes it possible to keep old cars on the road in a cost effective manner.

Experienced mechanics, with over 45 years combined knowledge, are on duty. It is owner-operated so I can attest that their rates are very reasonable. I would definitely be comfortable using them on any European model vehicle or even Japanese models.

I took my vintage 325ic in to be looked at. The car sat there for a few days, diagnostics were run, and they told my husband they "couldn't figure out what was wrong" and charged me $100 for what I imagine Advance Auto Parts does for free. Thanks!

The service here is EXCELLENT! MY experience with Ken was that he is very honest and informative. He took me back to my car and helped me see where my problem was coming from. He gave me his expert opinion on my options. The cost of services here is EXCELLENT, especially for getting to work with Ken. Ken thought ahead and saved me A LOT of money by performing a separate routine maintenance item that was going to be due in another year or so that requires a lot of labor to perform, but since he was already doing the labor for my current issue, he only charged me for parts for this one particular thing. My car was in and out in about 2 days. ALSO, I had a question to Ken about how to check the oil level on my car since it does not have a dipstick (this was somewhat unrelated to my current issue). Despite me telling him it was unnecessary to do so, Ken went out of his way to print out an instruction sheet on how I could check it. I'll certainly be returning to Ken the next time I need help!!
