I’ve had my car repaired at Fred’s twice now. They have been nothing but friendly, professional and transparent. Their prices are incredibly reasonable and their turn around is quick and accurate to what they initially estimate. I had my transmission replaced here, a notoriously tricky job. It took less than a week. The most recent time my car needed repairs, an engine coil failed, they replaced it in one day. Next time I have a car issue I’ll be sure to go to Fred’s.

I concur with all the 5-star ratings on Yelp. Fred’s Wrigleyville Garage and Auto Repair truly is a hidden neighborhood gem and deserving of all the recognition and accolades. Everyone at the garage was super helpful from start to finish. Stuart, who triaged my call was engaging, responsive, helpful, and flexible. Upon arrival at the garage, Joe checked me in - he was friendly and welcoming and had my car inspected, fixed, ready, and out the door in less than 3 hours. The entire process was very efficient. I also had the pleasure of meeting the garage owner, Fred, who was super friendly, approachable, and professional. Overall, as a first time customer I was very pleased with the pricing, efficiency, professionalism, quality customer service and care that Fred's team provided to me. I live in Evanston and when my check engine light came on, I took my car to a place in Evanston. After learning it would cost over $4000 to fix the problem, I called Fred. Fred saved me a significant amount of money and was transparent with the issues and the timeline. The cherry on top - Fred delivered my car to my driveway in Evanston to ensure the check engine light wouldn’t come back on when it was being driven.

After hours of trying to fix issues on my own, I was nervous about potentially having a bad transmission. I reluctantly brought my car to Fred's. The mechanic took notes and listened to everything I could explain. They called me back in about 2 hours, confirming the transmission was fine, but had a short list of minor issues I didn't even know about. After this visit, my car is running smoother than ever! Cannot recommend them enough. So fast and definitely offering the best prices.

Fred's has been my Go-To auto shop since I have been in the Chicago area. They have always been able to get me in and up extraordinarily quickly. Recent example is I was changing the pads and rotors on my Ridgeline and ran into a seized caliper pin on a Saturday. Didn't have a way to heat the pin so called Fred's and they got me in 7:30 am the very next Monday and finished up at 10:30 am same day with my truck ready to go. Very professional, great communication, and highly recommended.

These guys!!! Joe and Ray went far and beyond for me today!! If ever I'm in this gorgeous city Chicago (which is most of my waking hours) if I need automotive help I WILL CALL MY PEEPS AT FRED'S !!! I highly recommend you for the same! Trusted by me for sure! I even got extra smiles from everyone all the way around. I left my phone in my car when it was towed to Fred's. Ya know that awesome man Joe who rode his bicycle on his break to bring my phone to me. Ray lemme tell ya! He told me that I wouldn't get my car til tomorrow noon. I was worried cause I take important meds. I understood of you don't have the part yet, all good. Ray calls me 4:45 (give or take) "your car is ready miss Lisa" i could hear that he was happy to call and tell me! Now I'm getting a little because those over there did everything for me! There are humans that are truly human with love and souls out there! They proved it today! Please go to Fred's they will take care of you! I can't thank you enough!! Absolutely fantastic. I came in last year for a quote, and was quoted $1500 less than what Tuffy on Diversey did. I couldn’t afford the lump sum at the time. A few months later when I could afford it I came in and Fred kept the same quote from a few months prior, which I really appreciated and thought was that of a class act. Replacement of my brakes and suspension took less than a day. Fast, efficient, affordable, and kind. Will return for all my car repairs!

First time customer and they did a great job with a quick turnaround. Love that you can book an appointment online, which is one of the main reasons I’ve put up with Firestone’s high prices. Don’t need to anymore! Also p.s. love Fred’s responses to the negative reviews. He knows what he’s talking about.

Fred’s garage fixed my car in a quick, fair, professional and thorough manner. I had a mechanic give me a list of a ton of stuff wrong so I took my car to Fred’s and they found what really needed to be fixed and had it completed quickly and explained everything to me. All done at a fair price. Big thanks to Fred and his team.

Great experience working with them when my transmission went out. I showed up, and they got to working on it right away. The car was fixed numerous days ahead of schedule. And it was so easy to go pick it up once it was fixed. Super kind, friendly, and fair people. Appreciate their work.

I’ve been taking my husband’s car and my recently purchased car into Fred’s and they have always been very straight forward with me on what the car needs and don’t try to over sell me on things the car doesn’t need. Had an ongoing noise issue with my car and Fred went above and beyond in trying to identify and fix the issue. They even went and got a second opinion from another local garage and didn’t charge me. Very responsive and reliable shop. Would recommend to anyone looking for a local mechanic.

We called at 8am to ask about plugging a hole in a tire. We were told to come after 2pm. When we showed up at 2:30 we were told they were booked until the following week. A plugged tire would take them 30 seconds. Taking our business elsewhere.

Bueno ni una estrella se merecen el tipo que nos a tendió no se si sea el dueño o un simple trabajador desafortunadamente hoy senos descompuso el carro en Chicago y pues anduvimos Google para dar con un taller mecánico y pues nos salió este llamamos el que nos contestó nos dio un número para la grúa llamamos y nos llevó Asia ese local nos atendieron nos dijo el problema y todo bien pero nosotros teníamos un problema aviamos llevado a un familiar aúna cita ai en Chicago la dejamos donde tenía su cita cuando nos dijeron cuánto era del carro este tipo q ni el nombre nos dio le dijimos que no teníamos todo el completo del dinero que si nos daba chance de ir por mi familiar para que le a completáramos su pago y no quiso nos humilló diciendo que si no teníamos dinero para componer el carro que no lo ubieramos llevado yo ya estaba un poco estresada llevaba dos bebés uno de dies meses y otro de dos años mis hijos ya no querían estar estaban llorando con mucho sueño y el calor que Asia horrible ni así quiso que mi esposo fuera por nuestro familiar y yo quedarme con mis hijos si en su negocio para que así no desconfiara de que no le íbamos a traer el dinero asta nos dijo pida un uber yo le hablé a muchos taxis que busque pero me contestaban en inglés y no pude obtener uno mis hijos no para ban de llorar yo creo que fue así de inhumano por qué no a de tener hijos ni esposa ni familia tampoco que riamos que nos arreglara el carro de gratis simplemente que nos diera un chanse de ir por nuestro familiar para pagarle y yo me iba a que dar con mis hijos ai para que no desconfiara pero el lo que iso fue humillarnos diciendo que si no teníamos dinero que no lo lleváramos arreglar no es de que nosotros lo uniéramos planeado si no que desafortunadamente el carro se nos descompuso solo una dale de casa pidiéndole adiós que no nos pase nada y espero este tipo nunca pase por algo así y más con niños

I am so impressed with the speed, staff, and quality of Fred’s! After getting my converter stolen, I was recommended to Freds by several people. I dropped off my car on a Saturday and it was done by Monday! I am simply impressed & grateful for such great service in the city.

Just came back from the most upsetting and disturbing situation at Fred's. Just got to Chicago after a 20 hour drive from Florida and needed a problem checked out. Fred's was referred to us, so we made an appointment for early on Friday. On Thursday, got 2 voicemails from a mechanic saying if we could come today we should come any time. We could call if we want or just come by. Or come to our appointment whatever we want. The voicemails are saved. So we came in Thursday afternoon and were immediately greeted by someone (who we are told is Fred) who just was nasty and disrespectful from the second we pulled in. We were spoken to in the most nasty and rude way that it felt personal. We left the car there for them to inspect but halfway out the door we realized that no business who speaks to customers the way they spoke to us deserves our money. If you care about being treated civilly and respectfully as a customer don't go to Fred's. We are looking for a new mechanic if anyone has any suggestions.

Been going to Fred’s for over a year now. First few experiences were great - fast, efficient, straight to the point - replaced my axels when they needed to be replaced, good full service checkups and flushes etc. Quality of service has dropped drastically over the last 6 or 7 months in my experience unfortunately. It all started with a seemingly innocent mistake - I had specifically told Ray the mechanic last winter that I did *not* need an oil change with the rest of my service, as I had just had one done in Indianapolis the week prior. They gave me an oil change anyway and tacked it onto the bill. When I brought it up to Fred, he took the oil change off my bill and apologized for the misunderstanding. No big deal, the gesture was appreciated. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I’m having some problems with my suspension. I explain to Ray the noises I’m hearing and tell him I basically just want a diagnostic of the issue to see how serious it is and what we can do about it if it needs to be addressed. Ray calls me back about an hour later and convinces me that actually we need to replace the tires and that’s the noise I’m hearing, stressing that “we can not go further” until we replace the tires. Sounded a little strange, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Around 800$ and 4 new tires later, I drove off with the exact same creaking under the carriage that I arrived with. “Oh well,” I thought - it must not have been a big deal if Ray didn’t address it. Two days ago my engine radiator fan started going crazy. It instantly started up at full blast as if it had been running for hours, and would continue on for about 5 mins after shutting off the car. It had never done this before. After explaining the issue to Ray, he said he’d look into it. Called me back about an hour later telling me that there were 2 problems with the car - 1 being moderately low oil levels and the other being a “diagnostic issue” with the fan. He assured me that he had reset something with the fan, and explicitly stated to me that the fan does shut off with the car now after doing whatever he did to it. He then added that he had already given it an oil change despite me not asking for one and it having nothing to do with the issue I brought the car in for in the first place. The caveat was that he was not charging anything for the diagnostic right now and for me to drive the car for 2 or 3 days to see if the fan issue came up, at which point we’d address it, as those repairs would likely be quite costly. Fair enough, I said. I didn’t really need the oil change but the 90 or so dollars (lol) basically covered the labor he put into addressing the fan issue and then some, I thought. I walk back over to pick my car up, pay the 93$ for the oil change and walk over to my car. The engine is off and the engine fan is running. Literally nothing I had brought it in for had been addressed and I had just paid for an oil change I didn’t ask for. Ray got extremely defensive with me, immediately telling me he “didn’t do nothing” to the fan. I asked him why he thinks I even brought it in in the first place then and why he told me on the phone that the issue was addressed, and he continued being combative, telling me it’s not his fault my oil level was low. I asked to speak to Fred, and despite seeing him at the garage 1 hour prior when I dropped the vehicle off, I was told he was “out of town”. Fair enough, it’s a Friday, it’s a weekend, whatever. Would have liked to talk to Fred in person about this, but this is now 3 times in a row I’ve been to Fred’s where I’ve either had work done on my car that I didn’t ask for, or been misled into paying for something that didn’t fix my issue. I like Fred, but my trust is gone with Ray, especially after he got combative with me today. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere in the future. I’m usually not the type to leave reviews online or anything, but I opted to do this since Fred was no longer around on my final visit.

Fred’s Wrigleyville Garage is a hidden gem. From the moment I walked in, Fred, the owner, made me feel like I was in good hands. He’s super friendly and welcoming. The work they did on my car was top-notch, and the prices were more than fair. It’s hard to find this level of quality and professionalism without breaking the bank. If you need solid, reliable work done, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

This is the best customer experience I’ve ever had with a mechanic! My husband and I broke down in the middle of Chicago our first time visiting. This was very anxiety inducing as we have cats back at home in Virginia expecting our return within their limits of being left alone. Fred’s was quick to lay my worries to rest! Within 24 hours they had diagnosed the issue and ordered the broken part (on a discontinued vehicle might I add). Andrea, the customer support rep, was amazing at making me feel less worried and we were still able to enjoy our vacation! Thank you 1 million times over Freddy’s! Total vehicle turnaround time was under 48 hours!

Fred's is an honest, reliable, and speedy mechanic shop that I highly recommend to any in need. I took my 2012 Chevy Malibu in for an issue with the front end (lights for ABS, Traction, and ESC were on too) before taking a long road trip and I had my issues fixed and my car back in the same day! My car needed a diagnostic test to be ran, and the bearings and wheel rods were replaced on the front end which cost a total of $950. Fred, the owner, was kind and helpful throughout the process and made sure that my vehicle would be safe to take a trip in. I cannot thank Fred and his staff enough for the great work that they do.
