Poor communication between the staff and me the customer. I had to explain to 3 different people what wheels and tires and sensors were supposed to be put on my car. I also took my old wheels and tires with me and they did not refund my Disposal Fee until I mentioned it. Get your stuff together Gills. It's not that hard.

I'm writing this review after two bad experiences with this business. I purchased a set of tires for my vehicle here on 2/14/23 (invoice #2166718) and 3/8/23 (invoice #2174175, had to come back to get the spare at a later date). I list the specific dates and invoice numbers because today when I arrived for my appointment, the person behind the counter said there was no record that my vehicle had ever been to this shop before and that my information had not been entered. When the tires were installed, the techs broke one of my wheel caps. The person at the counter was very apologetic and quickly ordered a replacement. While this wasn't the best outcome, I chalked to up to "mistakes happen" and left pleased that my tires would have free patches and rotations for their lifetime. Fast forward to today, I returned for my first service on these tires, a patch and rotation. First off, no record of my appointment, which was confirmed via text. Then, it was revealed that my tire purchase was never logged in the system. I waited in the lobby for an hour while the service is performed and when my vehicle was ready, it was explained that one of my locking lug nuts, plus the key, had broken. I asked what the resolution would be since we were able to correct the last situation, none was offered, and I felt rushed to leave. So now I'm left with a broken lug nut that can't be removed by normal means (per the worker's explanation) and 3 others for which there is no key. Instead of feeling good about taking advantage of the service plan that came with my tire purchase, I feel completely taken advantage of and have to find another shop to fix this. I see in responses to other reviews that safety is a top priority for this shop, but that was definitely not my experience today. I will gladly pay another tire shop in the future instead of ever dealing with this place again.

This might have been my best experience at the mechanic shop ever. I had a bad wheel bearing on the front passenger side that was a safety concern and Gills Point S got me taken care of right away ! Jeremy found me a nice deal on OEM parts & was very up front about procedures/precautions giving me the best deal I could possibly get meanwhile Ben answered all of my random car questions happily ! Mechanic Dennis did the work on my car, which ended up including the new wheel bearing as well as new spark plugs, and he had me back on the road within 2 hours ! The overall environment of the shop was relaxing and everyone there had nice vibes so I felt very comfortable with adding on another repair ( spark plugs ) I would 10 out of 10 recommend Gills Point S Tire and Auto in St. John’s , Portland !!!!

Gills point S tore and auto service was recommended to me and they did not disappoint! I was walked through each step of the way and the time frame of completion was well within reason. They also offered financing through a third party which helped me feel comfortable when organizing finances for repairs. Would recommend to a friend or family member.

I got a flat a block away from the shop and walked down to see if they could help. Within 10 minutes my car was back at their shop with a new tire on order for the following day. Tim and Nate were friendly and helpful! I went back the next day to pick up my tire and again was out of there in less than 10 minutes. Great experience overall.

I have relied on St Johns Gills for the better part of 10 years now. They don't always call me back when my car is done (save my last service advisor) but I count on them to give me the straight scoop and do a good job. They have never been anything but good to me.

This place took care of my cars for the last seven years, and I couldn't be more grateful for their work. They were unfailingly capable, cordial, and honest. Even up to my last visit on my last day in Portland. I walked in and asked if they had immediate availability for a battery issue. Despite being short staffed, they took a look and were able to provide a temporary repair. Free of charge. It was enough to get a permanent fix on my road trip the next day. Thank you guys for helping me get on my way, and for keeping me on the road for so long.

Absolutely top top skill. Hybrid full synthetic change and I received above and beyond mileage efficiency tuning, washer fluid, and more without having to ask for it. High expectations and they were exceeded. Bring it here if you use a hybrid as a worker. I used to have to ask the maintenance / tire place to update my tire pressure and mileage tweaks.

Deeply disappointed in this place. I have come here multiple times for general stuff since I live in the neighborhood and then got absolutely screwed out of time and money when I got a power steering rack replaced. They have replaced the rack a total of 3 times, and a fourth to replace the bushings because they weren't fitting right, and just returned my car to me with a broken handle bar and a huge gaping leak in the boot. First one leaked but was under warranty. Second one was completely trashed, was incredibly loose and for some reason had pennies jammed in between the gaps and cross threaded bolts. I brought the car to another mechanic and they could not believe the car had been given back to me like that. I was upset at this point, but the manager was very accommodating and that was nice, however on the third time they replaced the rack they admitted that the fit was wrong (due to parts, apparently) and they wanted to make sure it was perfect so I should bring it back and they would give me upgraded bushings. I just got my car back and there is literally a hole in one of the boots, leaking ATF fluid in a huge puddle. The repeated pattern here is that the car was given back to me in worse shape than I left it and that is just absurd. If I hadn't taken the time to check myself other power steering components would be screwed in the long term. Not to mention the broken door handle..... What a racket. Now I have to pay another huge chunk of money to get this all redone by someone competent and just hope these people haven't permanently damaged my car in some other way that I haven't found. They are accommodating and very nice about warranty things, but I have a hard time believing that they needed this many times to "get it right". Maybe consider them for "easier" stuff, but beware of anything else. What a huge waste of my time and money.

If I stated how great the individuals are at Gills on Lombard, you would think I am a shameless conman. Having made it to Los Angeles, CA due to Gills top notch technical services, and honestly their depth of expertise equivocal to engineering, the result is proven at every mile. To add that the value of expenditure defeats all others in the market, from Valvoline for fluid changes, to dealer, Goodyear, Firestone, to Tony by the shade tree, it is inappropriate not to state a finding of greatness. I always like taking my car here. Folks who work there are always really nice and informative. I never feel like they're trying to upsell me on work that doesn't need to be done. They communicate necessary work well. Just all around a good shop.

Needed an alignment. I was able to make appointment online, which was very helpful. Service was thorough and well done. They even took a nail out of one of the tires. Price was more than fair.
