Well it saddens me that I have to leave a bad review for this business but the issues I have with the machine work have to be told. I brought my bowie BBC block, cranks, rods and related parts to be machined and fitted by J & J racing engines. I'm an ASE master technician that does my own engine assy, have mics and bore gauges so I hired them to do what I can't, machine work. They were to bore and plate hone the block, bore and hone the lifter bores to .904, boil and replace cam bearings and freeze plugs, replace the rod bolts and resize the rods, polish the crank and fit a brand new ATI balancer to the crank snout and finally balance the rotating assy. When I picked up the parts and returned to my shop I started to check the accuracy of their work. First issue, rod bores were oversized from specs which changed my bearing clearance bigger .001 from what they should be. Since I previously were using .001 bearings there was no .002 bearings so my Crower rods were now a problem. Next issue the lifter bores were only partially honed and lower half were rough from bore job. There is a specific clearance for proper oiling. So at this point I gathered up the parts and took them to another machine shop to inspect. The rods needed to be resized again which corrected the bearing issue. The lifter bores were so poorly machined they now needed bronze sleeves to return to correct sizes and index to block. Since this is a specific procedure requiring special tooling I took the block to PRE Racing engines in Miami for this. The machine shop checked the cylinder bores and plate hone I paid for from J&J, bores were never plate honed because with a plate the bores were not true. The new ATI balancer hub was supposed to have an interference fit to the crank, it was oversize now. Lastly the assy needed 5 grams on the front to balance, was balanced by J&J. So after paying J&J $2400.00 to pretty much ruin everything they touched it cost me another $2000.00 to correct. After this redo I spoke to John sr on the phone, sent him pictures of all the issues and asked him for some restitution. All I got was "You should have brought the parts back for us to correct". Seriously? Were talking about a business that is supposed to do precision work. If they didn't do it right the first time, that's a big problem for me or anyone that puts there trust in them. Most people don't double check them and if this is the quality level, be very, very afraid. Finally people need to read reviews because Ed was correct.

Hacks is the best word to describe the machine shop work done by this shop on our big block Chevy 454. They honed the newly installed cam bearings with a gritty ball hone. (See the attached picture). The block was not cleaned. Oil galley plugs and freeze plugs never were remove. Spotty surface rust on the freshly honed cylinders. Crank was not polished and has dings in the journals that were not there when dropped off to them. The work was so bad we picked up the engine from J&J and took the engine to a different machine shop. The different machine shop will check the bore job and re-hone, new cam bearings installed, check the crank to see if it needs to be turned, polish the crank, remove the galley plugs and freeze plugs, and clean the block. J&J Balancing should be be ashamed to take our cash for the hack work they performed.

They bored my LC8 6.0 to 6.2. Polished the Crank. They are also port and polishing the stock heads for me. They offer complete engine rebuilding and balancing for max HP. For any application. Thanks John and Johnny.
