Does not communicate effectively and long winded when you point that out. Took car in 12/05 for brakes-received a call 12:38pm they were pulling for inspection then dead silence. That’s fine understood the business is busy and sent a text. Owner’s replies this morning were deplorable and condescending, if you needed more time for diagnostic testing all you had to do was advise. Your customers rely on their cars for transportation. I don’t care how neglectful I have been with my car before, I bought it to you; just communicate so I can effectively plan for backup transportation. Adding our conversation so people can see his replies. Just a disappointing experience as a first time person to this shop. Please do better with future customers.

Absolutely love the level of excellence and the way that Dave goes out of his way to teach me how to take care of my car. I've never known anybody that not only will give me an estimate of what needs to be done, he explains they why it needs to be done, and he is honest about the costs and that there are no surprises at the time of payment. Love his integrity, which is very rare to find now days.

David and his crew do great work. They keep my 27-year-old 4Runner on the road as my daily driver. They fix what is necessary, tell me when something is unnecessary, and tell me when something can be put off until later. I trust their work and recommend them highly.

This establishment needs to go out of business. I have recorded the worst service from the owner. He was belligerent. Said “black people cant read” and amongst other derogatory language … this is a disgrace in 2024 to deal with .

This is the best mechanic I've been to in a really long time. David is honest, straightforward, extremely knowledgeable, and all around decent human being. He runs his shop with integrity, and doesn't cut corners on quality. He and his crew get the job done correctly the first time, and if there's a problem or mixup on his end, he goes out of his way to make it right. I drive 2 hours, one way, to bring my vehicle here, and its the only shop in the southeast that I trust with my car.

Amazing shop, great service and great work. Fixed my Subaru and adhered to the estimated timeframe to get it done. I like this shop so much, I'm posting this almost two years after my original visit because I just realized I forgot to leave a review.

David and his crew do great work and they will treat you fairly and with honesty. The only real downside is that you may have to schedule well in advance if they are busy - but it's worth it as you know that they aren't going to try to rip you off.

The Japanese Auto Specialists has helped me with several vehicles now for care care needs. This is where you go for no nonsense and knowing your car repair will be done properly peace of mind. I cannot say enough about David, the quality of work that he provides or his integrity as a mechanic. I came to David after reading the reviews and decided to bring in my 2005 Toyota 4Runner that I was looking at restoring. Sometime before my first appointment it became obvious to me that I was instead going to buy a newer vehicle and I asked David to look at doing the repairs to the vehicle to get it ready to sell after I had bought my newer 4 Runner. David went over the pros/cons of doing the repairs and not only was he meticulous in his knowledge but 110% above board in his suggestions....and we wound up working a trade where he gave me a fairer price for my vehicle in repair credits than I would have received had I sold it at the dealership (because he had always wanted my model year of vehicle). My old vehicle is now in the hands of someone who loves it, it was a win/win. Fast forward a few months? I have brought my 2015 4 Runner in for several repairs and oil changes and it was time to bring my wife's car in. David gave me a GREAT deal on the repairs over and above what I had left in repair credits and both of our vehicles are running better than they have ever been. If you read any negative reviews, don't listen to them! Does it take time to get in sometime? Yes, he really is that busy! Is it worth the wait? Absolutely if you value work done right, fair prices, honesty and integrity in your auto repair shop! I recommend David and Japanese Auto Specialists highly and will not take my family's vehicles anywhere else.

I was so happy a friend turned me on to these guys. David's knowledge of Japanese vehicles (Toyota in my case) is second to none. He and his team of mechanics are efficient and very easy to work with. David is a stickler when it comes to getting the job done right! If anyone who owns a Japanese vehicle in the area wants an outstanding and reputable shop who stands by their product, look no further than Japanese Auto Specialist. He has earned our trust and our respect for the quality of the work he and his mechanics have provided, for the careful cost-benefit thinking that is behind his recommendations, and for his forthrightness and honesty. This shop is great. I made an appointment and had to wait a good bit for it but David and his experienced crew treated my black tacoma very well. This guy has a wait because he knows his stuff and will not sell you un-needed stuff. If you want to be gouged go to the dealer. If you want your car fixed properly come here. To all the negative reviewers on this page, maybe YOU are the problem not him. If you bring an old hooptie in and dont spend money fixing it dont get mad at him . that is your fault. A vehicle is only as good as its owner and driver. Make an appointment by texting him and then drop your car off before 0800 on your appointment day and you get it back usually the same day. Real simple . theres also JTA bus stop right by the shop too if you need a ride back to your house or place of business if Uber is too rich for ya. what more could yall ask for? Even when I move to Mayo Florida out west I might just bring my taco back here.

We ended up not getting repairs done on my mom's 1999 Camry, due to mileage and extent on repairs needed, but the sheer speed of getting an estimate on the Friday before Christmas AMAZED me!! David communicated clearly and super fast via text message, and we're super grateful!! If I ever need repairs on a different car, I'm totally bringing it here!

Got my old Toyota truck running GREAT! David did some excellent work on my old Toyota truck. I did give him a hard time about how long it was taking - but ultimately I am very happy that he took his time and did it right - and I'm sorry I complained at all. I had it fixed a few months ago and I haven't had a single issue since. A 80s truck with close to 300k miles runs like a top. Thank you David and Japanese Auto Specialists!

David Genchur is a very honest man that does a amazing job maintaining our vehicles. He changed the timing belt and replaced the head gasket covers, and got our 2010 Honda Odyssey Van running the best it has since we first got it 5 years ago. When I then took my 2005 Honda Accord in for an inspection and estimate David could have taken my verbal O.K. and completed the $4,500 worth of repairs needed. He has such integrity he contacted me first to confirm since the car is not even worth that much any longer. I had missed that there were multiple estimates before giving my verbal O.K. After speaking with David I decided to just sell the car and buy a new one. Guess where I'll be taking it to keep it running in tip top shape!
