My son scheduled an appointment to diagnose a check engine light. He dropped his car off as scheduled, Monday at 8am. He called a few times during throughout the day asking for updates and was told every time “we’re working on it”. Tuesday came and he called several times and again was told the same thing over and over. I finally called on Tuesday at 3pm and got the same response “we’re figuring it out”. I asked for the manager. We discussed the situation and I learned how challenging these things can be to figure out and how their business operates based on situational needs. He finally came clean at the end of our discussion by informing me my son’s car wasn’t in a stall being worked on and would not be looked at until maybe the next day. I appreciated his honesty but still very disappointed in the whole experience, especially from a company that is rated very well. An appointment means something, it sets an expectation that you’re going to get service within a reasonable timeframe. Two days with no service and fabricated excuses is unacceptable.

2024 John's Automotive is STILL my go-to first choice for repair and maintenance of my car. They continue to be friendly, supportive, very detailed. With car maintenance as expensive as it it, I deeply appreciate their clarity about what can wait a bit (but will need to be addressed for safety), what is optional, and what is likely an immediate safety issue. 2021 I am very grateful to have found a mechanic I can trust. My old car needs more work than is worth it, including a replacement catalytic converter. There was ZERO pressure to do expensive repairs. And they offer a detailed check of the next used car I'll consider buying, for a very reasonable price. I recommend them to anyone I know who needs a mechanic. GREAT shop. 2020 They are competent, friendly, and offer the best documentation and evaluation of the state of your car of any mechanic I have ever been to, including photographs which they include in a report which you can take with you or they will email to you.

Not good news, being told the part you need to fix a bad fuel leak isn't available. My 1996 Buick Park Avenue is my pride and joy so in despair at the news of no fix from another garage, I looked elsewhere. The guys at Johns Automotive El Cajon, came to the rescue. Leave for a few days I was told and within 24 hrs, Justin gave me some positive news that repair was possible. Today I have the Buick in my driveway and relieved that its not going to salvage. During those few days I was given updates for this repair, including an inspection report by email. These messages saved me time by not having to call each day to find out if the vehicle repair was possible. I was of course thinking the worst as far as cost was concerned, bearing in mind rising part and labor costs. The final amount was within my budget and reasonable. I would highly recommend the team at Johns Automotive Care El Cajon branch and this will be my future repair facility in future for my Buick and Ford Ranger truck. Again a big thanks and my appreciation for getting my Buick back on the road.

This place preys on people that don't know anything about cars. My sister recently went in for simple maintenance and was told she needed a new air filter among other items. Simple stuff. Quoted $152 for just the air filter and install. INSANE!! Simple trip to auto zone for a $20 filter and 3 minutes of work. Done. If you don't mind being ripped off by all means come here.

Took my 2020 Kona EV there after discovering a coolant leak. I used to take my repair needs to a Hyundai dealership and after my experience with John’s Automotive, I’m never going back to a dealer if I can help it. The customer service was great and Dave was professional and courteous in explaining all the details and the step by step process. Even though they looked extremely busy, I could sense their priority was getting my car back to me as soon as possible and expressing concern when they had to wait for a part and keep it for another two or three days. They were not aware that the last time I had my car at a Hyundai dealer, it took them A MONTH before they even LOOKED at my car, so two to three days was a gift. Before taking either of my EV’s anywhere else, I’m going to try John’s automotive first.

Everyone there that I encountered was super friendly and helpful. I could tell from the get-go they weren't going to try to overcharge me because I was a female. I have been to shops before that have felt that way. I love the fact that they gave me a ride home the day I dropped off the car. And what I loved the most was after they inspected the vehicle they will send over a very detailed inspection report with notes, pictures and videos. Lastly, they were honest and recommended a different shop for a different problem on the car which they felt, they were better suited to take care of.

I’ve been bringing my cars to John’s for a lot of years. Always personal and careful consideration of all of my concerns. They didn’t extensive inspection of my Honda and provided me with suggestions and photographs for any work that needed to be done. They never try to upsell and their prices Are right in line especially for a AAA approved station. I’m confident to refer my friends to John’s. Thank you, John.

Excellent response time, On time service, valuable rides back and forth to my house. I caught a very small error on my bill and they corrected it right away. My wife likes the people m the office and the doctor pepper in the refrigerator. Prices are ten to fifteen percent above the competition, But significantly less than dealer service prices. I think they gave me good advice in those things which really must be done, and those things that could wait. We're not sure how much longer we're gonna keep this car and we want to take care of it, but not necessarily with a long term vision.

My car coolant warning light had been on for a couple days and coolant started to leak and puddles were forming under the car. I made an appointment the night before I took the car but did not realize it was a request, not an appointment. John's Automotive took the car anyway. The whole process was straightforward. They told me what they were going to do and they did it. They called me with an estimate a day after I dropped the car off and the estimate of the completion of the work. They were right on. The bill ended up being less than the estimate. Great service.

My experience with John Automotive was fantastic! They finished my service check/ oil change in less than two hours. They had top tier customer service, as they drove me home to my house while I was waiting for my vehicle. John’s Automotive will be the only place I go to for my car moving forward! :)

The customer service was very friendly and welcoming. I didn't have much problem get my car looked at after a couple days wait since I was a walk-in. However after they looked at the issue they try to hit me with the highest price. I voiced my complaint and rather immediately I got a reply to try to resolve my issue. How is very satisfied with the phone call and they're willingness to help me. Thank you for making it right.
