I hate to write poor reviews for a locally owned small business, but need to warn people after my experience. I was recommended to Dave at Long Automotive because he specialized in older cars (I drive a 1994 Volvo), affordable, and I was having a small issue. Dave, the head mechanic, was incredibly condescending when he spoke to me and about the issues with my car. He held on to my car and "worked on it after hours" for SIX WEEKS - did not even fixing a thing. He finally said "you have a problem car and need to take it somewhere else," - which was ultimately not true. Most frustratingly, he never called me for updates, and would not pick up when I called the shop - my mistake not pulling my car sooner. The only way to get an update was to show up in person, which I did once a week. My updates were "still running some tests"... I don't know if Long Auto is underprepared or had too many cars in the lot, but I was surprised how disrespected and talked down to I felt every time I walked out of their shop. Having Long Automotive service my car was an incredible waste of time. I ended up biting the bullet and taking my car to HiTech Auto where their incredibly organized team repaired my Volvo the same day for under $300. Six weeks at Long Auto and one day at HiTech! HiTech is generally expensive, but so organized and will repair your vehicle with clear communication and kindness.

Sadly after 20 + years of this being my local automotive place, I’m done. My car was there for 2 weeks and I had to go to the shop twice to try to get answers of what was going on. No one would answer calls or texts to give me any sort of update. Time to find a new mechanic.

David is an excellent mechanic. He is honest and doesn't try to upsell you on repairs. This is a reason why he always has a full lot of cars. If you want a quality mechanic at a fair price, bring your car here. It's best you bring your car early as the car's pile up early as he is a sought after mechanic.

Long Automotive is an AMAZING shop. I’ve been taking my car there for years. They are honest, and will give you a decent rate for repairs, usually cheaper than any other places.

There’s only one other reviewer on here that says this but adding mine here too. The guy handling customers made me feel stupid and incompetent with the questions I had. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and returned multiple times and every time he was notably condescending and smug. All the reviews on here are positive and I think they do fine work but his attitude with customers definitely needs work.

In a city with mechanics on seemingly every corner, it can be hard to figure out who is legit. In my experience, these guys are great. I have to 20+ year old vehicles and I have the work they done on them to be reliable. I have been to a couple if other mechanics in the area and have settled on these guys. Trust is a big thing for me, and I trust these guys. They are old school and I like that as well. The only thing that's a hassle is the parking. Can be hard to find a place to park.

David had my back windshield replaced on a 92 Camry in a very short period of time. They have great communication and because they know their repairs, they were able to give an exact quote. I called on Friday evening, drove it in Saturday morning and it was ready for pickup that same afternoon. Great service.

Great mechanic! After moving to Los Angeles, I was nervous about finding a new mechanic but I'm so glad I found Long Automotive. Dave and his crew are efficient at what they do for a very reasonable price. Will continue to come here for car maintenance!

Had a fantastic experience at Long automotive. We didn’t know if what was going on with our car was normal in this heat so we called Longs and they got us in, assessed the car, and had it back to us confirming everything was in working order in no time. Extremely friendly, knowledgeable and courteous! Highly recommend.

I brought in my late 90s Chevy Tahoe and David did a fantastic and trustworthy job helping me get to the root of the problem. They are busy for a reason, because they do reliable work. I’ll be back definitely.

I really don't recommend coming here. So here's the story: I called asking how much it would be to change a headlight bulb. Man on the phone gave us a quote of $30. We came in and his story changes now quoting us $60-$90 basically saying how it's actually much harder to do. So then, I call my trusty mechanic back home who tells me this should be an easy $20-$30 job. I go back to the man behind the desk and ask if he can just check to see if its an easy fix. Man then says that theres just a difference in opinion? about what? So he goes on to yap about how its almost the holidays and he doesn't want to do all this work blah blah blah. I THEN GO TO ANOTHER AUTO SHOP WHO EASILY CHANGES THE BULB IN 10 MINUTES FOR $25. Man behind the desk was rude, disrespectful, and unhelpful. Would never recommend anyone to come here. The interaction made me livid especially after it was fixed in 10 minutes for way cheaper at another shop.

Many things change in L.A. Except here at Long's. Been coming here for over 10 years. Not only does Dave the owner and his crew give great honest advice for your car treatment. Long automotive gives amazing service quality, and it shows on how busy it always is. Much needed and appreciated business. Bless Long automotive for centuries to come.

The Sad part this is based on his customer service...if you are a woman trying to do your research and calling mechanics he's not the one for you he makes you feel incompetent for bothering to call him or any other mechanics to ask if they do certain jobs and once he explains y they need to run own diagnostic and determine themselves what job you need he still won't tell you the price he'll charge or if he'll put it towards the repair when trying to make an appt and telling him ur still willing to bring it he will make you send paperwork to his number so he can go over it and decide if you guys are a good fit just for him to never get back to you

Very good, neighbor business, always tries to save me money because they know I need it. I have been praised for referring them to others. I was a customer from the old ownership in the 2000s and the new ownership more recently. Same thing. Both good. Not a lot of people can walk to the repair shop but I can. Very very convenient.

My daughter's car broke down just a couple of blocks from Long Automotive, and after doing a bit of research on where to take the vehicle, we chose Long on a whim. So glad we did. They took care of the issue very quickly, and the price was incredibly reasonable. What a change from years of feeling "taken" by automotive shops when in a desperate situation. Our experience with Long Automotive was the opposite - fantastic in every way. I never, ever write reviews on Google and felt compelled to give them a shout out for the great service. I wish I would've found Long Automotive sooner! I am very particular about my car, and have been looking for an honest mechanic to take it to since I moved to Los Angeles 8 years ago. Everybody at Long Automotive has been super helpful, trustworthy, and communicative. I have recommended Long Automotive to multiple friends, and they also have had only good things to say. I highly recommend this place to anybody in need of a good mechanic.

This is one of the few places that I trust to work on my vehicles. I have been going to them for quite a few years now. They have done work for me on a highly customized Jeep CJ, a Nissan 240SX, an Infiniti G35, a Mazda MX-5, a Toyota 4Runner, a Subaru Crosstrek and others. They are knowledgeable and conscientious. They keep the cars clean. I'm capable of doing this work myself, but they charge a fair price and it's totally worth letting them do the work.
