if you like being extorted and having to fix more than what needed to be fixed you found your mechanic. also they’ll DESTROY your vehicle with their lack of know how to change a fuel pump. gotta drop the engine to change it. not carve a hole out of it to get to the pump.

Terrible service, my car was sent to them 4 times for the same issue and still not resolved! Would definitely not recommend!

04Apr2023- have extreme caution with this place. Something is NOT right here. Your car and safety may be in danger. *** see bottom for update*** Started out going to dealer. Took them 3 days to diagnose something Paul D Hooks was able to tell me right away! 😂 dealer quoted me $875 and Paul D Hooks was a small FRACTION of that. On top of that, they were so kind and helpful. 🥹 dropped my car off right before closing yesterday and just got a call this morning that’s it’s ready!!!! Paul D Hooks, just take my money!!!! I’ve never been happier to give my money for repair. 😂 ———————- I wrote the above review when I took my car in to get a new evaporator purge valve (I think?) because car wouldn’t turn on first key turn after getting gas. Few hundred bucks later, I get my car back only to see the problem was NOT FIXED. I took it back. Another few hundred bucks later and the problem seemed to be fixed but my engine light came on immediately after. Okay, I take it back and they tell me I need a new evaporator? (Isn’t this the same part they already replaced?) and a new battery. About $900 (on top of the previous payments) bucks later, I get my car back and the windshield wipers are not working. They tell me to come back next week because they are busy. Well, then I find out my car dies overnight because the battery they put in was bad. Also note my battery cover was not put back in place- was just loose under my hood on the opposite side. I took it back and they ran a quick test and said it was my starter and quoted me $400. It was NOT the starter though.i left and tried to avoid going back here because the trust was completely broken, but I ultimately decided to go back this past Wednesday and ask them to replace the battery because all signs pointed to battery (unless parasitic draw). They took 3 days (kept it overnight twice to check battery drainage) and confirmed it was the battery and they replaced it. Awesome. I went to pick up my car and I asked if they fixed the windshield wipers. No, they forgot. So I wait while they drive my little car back into the garage. Paul came back out and told me the hood wouldn’t open. WHAT?! There were no issues with my hood before I came! What happened? They tried some more but he told me he can’t do anything about it and I can try going somewhere else if I want or come back next week. At this point I’m bewildered. I can’t even believe what I’m hearing. I even joked with my husband earlier this week that they were going to return my car to me with another problem because weird problems seem to arise every time after I take my car here. I drive my car home with non-working windshield wipers, and a broken hood. When I got home I noticed that the hood lever inside my car was BROKEN. It was fine when I brought it in Wednesday. And a piece of it was on the floor of my car. My husband is at the shop as we speak and he told me Paul left for the weekend. There’s a tech there trying to help him. Hopefully we get somewhere. I understand they are human and I appreciate what they have done right (the two guys that tried to help my husband seemed nice and wanted to help) but I’m really sad and not having a working car has really affected things for me. I really wanted to trust this place. Another update 10Apr2024- my husband dropped off my car again yesterday to fix the windshield wipers. Paul called me today to tell me the windshield wiper motors are bad and the job will cost $730. I almost laughed. The parts are $200. And how does it make sense to anyone with an ounce of reason that both my windshield wiper motors went “bad,” just out of the big blue…right after I got my car back from them. Am I the most unlucky car owner (my car is only 6 years old), is it negligence on Paul’s part? Or worse… is it bad practice going on there? Paul told my husband my windshield wipers may have been bad before I brought my car in February. Ha, nope because you passed my windshield wipers on my state inspection you performed at THAT SAME VISIT. So looks like the inspection was fraudulent. Just wow.

Fix your car with Paul Hooks, if you don't mind having more damage done to your car, having missing parts, broken handles, and losing covers, caps, and screws. You must also pay exaggerated charges for made-up issues or a small defect that never actually gets fixed. In short, it is incompetent, dodgy, and hazardous. For more details, here's my experience with Paul, 1. The car had minor dysfuntion, droping start-up right after fully fuelled per Paul, it needed a "purge" valve; which he then replaced for $800+ charges. __but the problem persisted... 2. So, I took it again to Paul, and another valve needs replacement: $700 charges 3. A few weeks later, check engine light on: name a replacement, AND ELECTIVELY REPLACE THE BATTERY __here's the serious problem beyond unrequired and fake charges, fresh out of Paul's, the windshield wipers not working, and the battery is mallfunctioning; the car repeatedly needs a jump start... 6. We took the car back right then, Paul needed four days to ensure what the problem was, and finally replaced the battery (with an oversized wrong one). But still hasn't fixed the wipers, and when urged to repair the wipers that he damaged while replacing the now malfunctioning battery, he ended up breaking the hood release handle with the hood jamed, thus must leave the car more days 7. Two more days, Paul and David stated the wipers can't be fixed, "it's the windshield wipers motor that's broken," and they can replace it for $700+ __interesting fact is, during the same time of fixing engine light and changing the battery, Paul then passed the car for the state inspection, despite unworking wipers and defective battery (reporting DMV for fraud) 8. Paul became so unprofessional when I asked that he fixes the damage he infected on the car for negligence, ignorance, or else. He declined fixing his mistakes, and I discovered 2 cooling hozes were disconnected. 9. Took the car to the dealer to fix the damage the mechanic Paul caused to battery and wipers, but also out of deep concern for what else could he have done to the car __turns out the windwipers' motor is working fine, but Paul had disconnected a necessary wire out of the battery for the wipers to work AND got rid of a crucial battery regulator for the battery to maintain charges. They replaced the 2 missing pieces for $900+, then everything went back to normal again, and Paul refuses to take responsibility for his ignorance and malpractice *FYI, this car had no prior issues at all and was just recently out of an extended warranty, will all previous maintainance done at the dealar *below photos of having to break into the car cause of Paul breaking the hood release handle, and while fresh out of Paul's shop, disconnected hozes, defective battery, and damaged wipers

I have an Acura RDX. Had my vehicle towed to Hooks’s. David and Blake ran diagnostics and it appeared that it was my computer so David hooked that up and Blake did some fine tuning on my battery and told me to come and get it. Now I say this because it’s real and humans are doing the work. I paid Fernando at the front desk & I got in my car and she started acting crazy again. David apologized bc he felt like he looked bad. I had to wait for the big gun Paul Hooks to take a look. Following morning I was told it was the alternator. Yah that sucks and I just spent money on a repair that wasn’t needed exactly. Paul took that into account. Gave me a pretty decent discount and repaired my car that afternoon. I picked up my car and she’s been riding right as rain ever since! My point is there are people working and mechanics can be a tricky business but these guys are honest and fair and my vehicle is operating great!! I’ll continue to my business to Hooks and refer anyone who needs a mechanic!

They lost my phone number and my keys. I went to pick up my vehicle only to find out they towed it. I tried calling back to see if they could figure out how to get me a copy of my key. They started dodging my calls.

Paul, David, and Blake did a great job of keeping me up-to-date with my vehicle. I brought it in with a lot of problems and they were able to fix it. My truck runs very smoothly now. Thanks for all your hard work.

Took in my Isuzu for overheating. Drove in smooth.Bought the thermostat myself to save a little cash. Well 5 days and $590 later I get the car back. I drove it off the lot only to have my engine shaking a lot. The only time it runs smooth is when I have my foot on the pedal. I called and told them and he said it was shaking when I brought it in...it wasn't at all. Then he said it was my rotors...it wasn't. I had it checked and it was misfiring. It wasn't doing that when I brought it in. Now I have to get plugs and coils.. But hey...at least it's not overheating right?

Called Friday and asked if I can get a inspection. Told me to come tomorrow morning. I'm here and y'all are closed. Waste of time.

I had my car towed in after it needed the starter replaced. I described what was going on, and they diagnosed and fixed my issue in less than 24 hours. This is my sole method of transportation for me and my kids, so I'm extremely grateful!! The new starter was a bit more expensive than anticipated, but I was glad to pay it for such a quick turnaround! Paul was able to process my payment over the phone and communicated very efficiently through the process of getting my car towed there to have it looked at. And the mechanics were polite and professional. I haven't had an issue that required a mechanic in years, but this is my new mechanic from now on! Thank you again!!

I've never had an auto shop take my deductible and then tell me to fix their mistake under my factory warranty. Also left the shop with a screw in my tire. If you have a new Kia. Be careful who you trust.

Skilled work at a fair price

They fixed my car, but it felt like they didn't want to. They get paid by the hour, so they defintely took their time, I was in the area the whole day and it took them from opening to closing to fix two pretty common issues. The charging is outrageously high for something like a coolant flush and they will take advantage of naive customers. The clerks felt condescending and passive agressive. Definitely was some animosity there.

Very grateful--I was in SA attending the birth of my grandbaby. Car started running rough. Found this mechanic near the hospital who was able to take me right in, test drive my car, fix it, and get me back on the road in time for a 1:00 doctor's appointment in Austin. Very satisfied and highly recommend!

Worst service I ever had I took my 03 malibu in there for electrical work the technician was supposed to call me back regarding the status of it and at first the story was he had a family emergency and never came back from lunch and then the story changed to "he got hurt and is out for two weeks" car was in there a week and they did absolutely nothing except give me the run around.

Amazing customer service!! By front bumper was broken and scraping the road. I chose this place because it was the closest to my location. Despite the shop being super busy, they helped me make my car safe to drive in just a few minutes! Super polite, honest and helpful. Will be coming back for all future services.

I should've written this review years ago 'cause I've done business with Paul Hook Automotive for at least 15yrs and it's all been excellent work with attention to detail, and reasonably priced. I quit going to dealers for service simply because they're not reasonable, don't pay attention to detail and also 'cause dealers often attempt to sell you what you don't need in order to pad the bill for commission et al. As customers we seek service in 'good faith' and we expect reciprocal 'good faith', not to be poked in the eye. Recently I went to Paul for brakes 'cause the dealer had noted that I needed brakes for my Nissan Frontier SV pickup the last time I took my vehicle for scheduled maintenance; however, on that visit the dealer screwed up something and didn't want to fix it though they were responsible. Duly noted, the next time out for maintenance I went with Hook for brakes... My truck didn't need brakes, front or back, then nor now --they're fine and work as they should. Obviously the dealer need to make an additional $500 for my brake job. Building trust with folks takes time and I trust Paul D Hook for 15yrs and I recommend him and his techs to anyone. Thanks.

Paul and his staff are the VERY BEST!!!!! I don't trust anyone else. Jared and Blake take such excellent care of my vehicles. From the AC to the inspection stickers, to everything else. I would give anything if Paul could have another location in NB!!!! Paul is HONEST, KIND, and is straight forward. No other place will get your vehicle in and tell you what is going on, immediately!!!! No one else!!! I have been a loyal Customer for over 17 years. I still drive to SA to get my oil changed by them. I recommend them to everyone I know. They just saved one of my friends over $2k that a Dealership tried to charge for a simple fix under $200. BEST PEOPLE EVER!!!!! 💗

Sometimes you’re lucky enough to find it on the first try, and that’s how I feel about running into Paul D Hooks Automotive Inc. We all get recommendations for this, that and the other and like most I typically let ignore them. Fortunately, this time I did take the recommendation and Paul and his team didn’t disappoint. I had them do a tune up, fix my driver side window, my turn signal, along with some dashboard warning lights. I can’t lie I don’t like having to drive into San Antonio but at least I know my truck will be correctly taken care of.

The owner is very honest and great service , that's most important. But they did scratch my interior and didn't put back my sounds system after all.

Truck heated up while in town for doctor appointment. Water pump went out and did a Google search of Auto shops nearby. Mr Hooks had good reviews so we went to his shop and he did not disappoint us. Got right on our truck while we waited and got us fixed in a timely manner. Such a blessing. Thanks for the great service. Will definitely recommend.

Very professional company. Other shops I go to are not so clean. Appearance and professionalism is my main concern when I go to automotive shops. Thanks Hooks for that.

Was visiting from Fredericksburg and truck overheated. Just happened to be 3 miles from Paul’s shop. He got me in quickly, test drove my truck and quickly diagnosed and repaired my truck. Paul went above and beyond what I’ve experienced at other repair shops and he’s a very nice and friendly guy. I’d recommend him to anyone and I’ve added him to my saved list of San Antonio spots.
