Brought my car in late on a Tuesday for a new tire and rim. The technician told me he would call me Wednesday morning with a quote and update, didn't call. I call Wednesday, they say my car is ready, wasn't ready. They then tell me it'll be ready Thursday afternoon, I call Thursday and they don't even have the part. Friday rolls around, they do not call me at all, I get a text at 7:24pm that my car was ready (they close at 7pm). Saturday we pick up the car, a bolt for the rim is sitting on my drivers' side seat, and another bolt is loose that I hand tightened until I got back to the shop. When they correctly installed the bolts, nobody told me the car was ready, I sat there for 15+ min, not knowing the car was ready and I left. If I could rate 0 stars I would. Terrible communication and installation.

I had the pleasure of working with Omar for my first service, which involved an engine replacement during a snowstorm. Despite the challenging conditions, I was serviced promptly, and the wait was minimal. I appreciate the efficient service and will certainly return when I’m in the Chicago area.

Terrible service. I called Wednesday and they said it would be a 3 hour wait for an oil change so I decided to just schedule an appointment early Friday to cut the wait time. I arrive at my appointment on TIME and had to wait a few mins for someone to service me because he was too busy running his MOUTH in the bathroom. He was loud and came out still on the phone and had the nerve to put whoever on hold just to tell me it would be a few hours to get an oil change. I ended up canceling and going elsewhere. He didn’t even apologize for the inconvenience. Customer service at the location on Grand was extremely distasteful - I would NOT recommend going there.

I would highly recommend NOT using this pepboys. I had a ton of work done in 2022 (approx. 3000$) which included a front right tie rod replacement. I took my vehicle in to another shop today for different repair work and they stated that the front right tie rod has a lot of play and it likely wasn’t installed right or the part they used at Pepboys was bad. I contacted the Pepboys immediately and they stated that since it’s out of warranty there was nothing they could do. Tie rods are meant to last a lot longer than two years and they refused to be of any assistance. Even the mechanic from the new store I was at thought that was extremely unprofessional.

My tire got punctured by a vandal, so had to get a new tire. I came here and they just sold me the tire and didn’t switch out the rim. I had to come back the next day to get that done and it took hours. The guys closing this place were clearly lazy and chose to not help me. Very disappointed

THIS PLACE IS SAD …. I get the work and labor but WHEN YOU ARE TRUBLE SHOOTING … I TRY SOMETHING AND IF IT DOESNT WORK U GO BACK A STEP YOU DONT KEEP ADDING ON AND RUNNING UP MY BILL TO SAY WE NEED TO DO ANOTHER CHECK THAT 600$ nahhh …. BIG SCAMMM AND MFR DIDNT PUT THE CAP BACK ON HEADLIGHT AFTER DONE ….

11 employees 3 cars in shop including mine, and I've been here for 3 hours for 4 New tires.. Customer service is good. But vehicle service time is terrible. They told me that it would take an hour and a half and again 3 hours.. 1st and last time I will be coming here. And definitely not recommending to anyone.. And all the time here, not even a drop of water was offered...

Extremely professional. Top notch trustworthiness too! I took one car in last week for an oil change and got exactly that. They also suggested a few things in the upcoming days and or months, but never tried to upsell me on anything. I’m back here today, dropping my second car off and if you need to get your oil changed, tires checked in a city where there are so many options and you don’t know who you’re dealing with? I would go to Gilbert and Company here! Quite possibly the coolest shop that I’ve ever been to. -Molly

I brought my flat tire to the shop. They were very busy and were able to fix my tire quickly. Enriquez gave me a ride back to my car in his personal vehicle and put my tire on for me! This employee went WAY above what I was expecting and really impressed me with his knowledge and professionalism. Thank you! 5 stars

I had a terrible experience with this shop. I left my car for a flat tire and another tire issue, and they initially told me they’d fix it by the end of the afternoon. By 6:30 pm, I called them since they were closing at 7, only to get an automated message saying they had already closed. They called me back a few minutes later to inform me I needed a new tire, which wouldn’t arrive until the next day, meaning my car had to stay overnight. I agreed and was told it would be ready by 9:30 am the next morning. However, by 10:30 am the next day, I still hadn’t heard from them. When I called, they said they were aligning the tires and it would be ready in 30 minutes. I showed up at 11:30, and my car was still not ready. They were scrambling to check the mileage, and I ended up waiting in the store for another 15 minutes. What’s worse, I asked for an electronic receipt for the new tire, gave them my email, and never received it. Now I’m left wondering if they even replaced the tire at all. It’s absurd that it took over 24 hours to fix a simple flat tire and change another one. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They’re unprofessional, disorganized, and their lack of transparency makes me question their honesty. Save yourself the headache and take your car elsewhere. Update: Despite multiple follow-ups via email and contacting customer service, I still have not received the receipt. The customer service email provided in their response redirected me back to the store, which has not answered my initial requests. It seems that they are refusing to give me the receipt, making me question whether the services I was charged for were even performed. This lack of transparency and accountability is completely unacceptable.

I scheduled an appointment in the morning. Drove over to get my oil changed and tires rotated later that day. When i got there they said sorry we dont can’t accept same day appointments…. would have been nice to know maybe before or even after i scheduled the appointment.

Pablo and his team denied us service saying they’re not taking any more customers and it’s about 4pm and the establishment doesn’t close until 6pm. Very Unprofessional. Clearly by the photo they had room and time to take in new customers.

Rude and incompetent staff. They don't even have the machine to resurface rotors as their standard brake package advertises is included. Total scam bait and switch operation. BBB is my next call.

Great experience here today getting new tires!! The Kumho tires are not only top quality but care was also taken with installation, they even cleaned out built up dirt in the wheels and remembered the valve stem caps. Also, I had them change the serpentine belt as it was worn. Just after I drove off, the car began to overheat due to a radiator issue. Even though they were about to close, they had me drive back to check it, added coolant and let me drive around to be sure it was stable. While I’ll plan a visit to our regular mechanic to resolve the radiator issues, I’ll return to this Pep Boys for tires and other work. Shoutout to David and Pablo for their time, patience, and customer service! Edit #2: Regarding the below issue, Pep Boys was responsive and, in fairness to other people who had appointments, all I had to do was schedule a new time. They got me in fast considering I was running behind that day admittedly. The alignment was corrected and the mechanic also re-balanced all 4 tires as well. The car is driving much smoother. 5-star rating restored. Thank you once again! 👏🙏 Edit: The alignment is warrantied for 30 days, and from the first few days the car was shaking and the steering wheel was not straight. When I asked they said to simply bring it in and they’d realign it. Then, when I went back there was a snafu finding a time to redo the alignment even if I left the car there (an alignment takes 20-30 minutes max, and now our tires have been wearing unevenly as a result), plus they said the alignment machine was out of recalibration a few weeks ago which is likely why our alignment wasn’t correct. Meaning, our car seemingly wasn’t really aligned in the first place when we paid for it when we bought our 4 new tires?! So what’s the point of an alignment if the machine is out of calibration? While my initial experience of buying the tires was pretty smooth, I had just begun to wonder why the adjustment for the alignment (under warranty) was an issue, however it all worked out.

I arrived at Pep Boys for my 8:00 appointment. During the “inspection,” the technician insisted I replace all four tires without even taking measurements. I only needed my left rear tire replaced, and I had tread measurements to prove it—all other tires measured at 8”, except the left rear. This was clearly an attempt to upsell unnecessary services. As a young female, I am aware of the tendency to be taken advantage of at auto shops, which is why I came prepared. The technician seemed dismissive when I challenged his recommendations, which made the entire experience even more frustrating. Despite scheduling this appointment in advance and specifying the tire I needed, it wasn’t in stock, and I was told it would arrive by 3:00 PM, pushing my car’s pick-up time to 5:00 PM. While my car was at the shop, I received multiple notifications indicating that my car had been opened and left unlocked—even before the replacement tire arrived. This was extremely concerning. Upon arrival, I found my car parked outside with the windows down on a busy street. To make matters worse, they then informed me that they had mounted the wrong tire, requiring additional work. The whole ordeal cost me significant time and stress, and I never received any sort of apology or attempt to make it right. Ultimately, I cannot recommend this location. It seems like they prioritize upselling over genuinely assisting customers and don’t take basic security precautions seriously. If you need work done, I suggest looking elsewhere to avoid this level of carelessness and unprofessionalism.

I had a terrible experience with Pep Boys. After getting my car towed in for a battery issue, they advised me to replace both the main and auxiliary batteries at prices much higher than other shops. After the repairs, new problems immediately surfaced—warning lights I had never seen before, including the Check Engine Light, ABS Sensor Warning Light, and Traction or Stability Control Light. I was told by their mechanic that these issues would reset on their own, but they didn’t. Pep Boys then instructed me to take my car to the dealership and promised they would reimburse me for the repairs caused by the new issues that arose after they handled my car. However, despite this promise, they have failed to follow through with the reimbursement. Their communication has been inconsistent, and instead of resolving the problems their service caused, this experience has been nothing but stressful and disappointing.

Terrible experience Their inspections are terrible My brake pads and routers were completely fine but thy forced to change them and since thy hav changed it thy are making noises. The actual sound was of struts which should have been fixed at first place.
