Wonderful service on my Volvo xc60. I always wonder if I’m being taken advantage of when I’m at an auto shop because I’m an older woman in my 70s. A special thanks to Rene for his excellent service and pricing! He documented his work with photos which helped me understand what I paid for. I don’t believe he’d take advantage of anyone.

Rene and his team are great! They are super friendly and know what they’re doing. I brought in my Astro van that had multiple problems including a ticking noise when I pushed on the accelerator and burnt oil smell. Rene diagnosed the problems and fixed them quickly. He kept me updated throughout and explained everything to me thoroughly so I understood what was going on. He even offered to give me a ride to a cafe while I waited for the van to be worked on. I highly recommend Rene’s Auto and will be coming back if I need a repair again!

Renee is an honest and great mechanic. My daughter goes to UC Santa Cruz and got into an accident. Her car needed a new radiator and AC compressor and Renee took in the car and inspected it right away and had the car fixed up and ready to drive the next day! Highly recommended. Don't hesitate to call him!

I’ve been bringing my cars to Rene’s automotive repair shop since moving to Santa Cruz 13 years ago. At the time his shop was next-door to my wife’s office and when I needed some auto maintenance, it was convenient. I’ve been bringing all my vehicles to him when needed since he and his assistant mechanic Frank always provide Friendly expert and affordable service. I sometimes compare prices with other shops simply to see if I can save money, but I have not found another area shop. That provides the high level of service and expertise at lower prices. I have an older vehicle, A 1991 Chevy G2, cargo van and a late model Toyota Prius. He is trained and certified by Toyota to work on their hybrid cars. Wonderful service to the Prius. He has also done major engine work as well as preventative maintenance on the van. And has kept it purring down the road. I recommend this shop highly. To anyone looking for expert service and peace of mind that the issue has been properly diagnosed and expertly repaired.

Even though Rene was inundated with other repairs, I had my brakes and rotors replaced within one hour of walking into the garage. All other shops in the area required an appointment for days later, but Rene understood that I could be a danger to myself and other Santa Cruzians. If you like to support long-standing local businesses, honest mechanics, quality OEM PARTS, vicinity to town eats, quicker than average repair, then please patronize this establishment. I'm coming back to get my back two rotors and brakes repaired before I cross any mountain ranges.

I took my ‘04 Toyota Sienna into Rene initially for a wheel bearing and because of the great service at a fair price I ended up returning for the next two repair jobs I needed on the vehicle. Highly recommend this shop.

If there was a way I could give Rene a Patron Sainthood - I absolutely would. I brought my Mitsubishi outlander sport to him with a mystery condition that developed after getting my brakes and rotors done at Firestone on Water St. that they themselves couldn't identify or fix (don't EVER take your car there). We have a very nearing deadline of moving 1500 miles away a week from now and my car was not safe to drive at this point. Not only did he almost immediately take my car in after calling during the short week of Thanksgiving which is a huge blessing; he also communicated consistently every step of the way on what he was doing, what he found, and what my options were. He found the problem, fixed it, and saved me over $2k in parts and labor from the dealership. Which ultimately has saved our move timeline. His prices are incredible, he is fair, and you can trust him and his years of knowledge and expertise. I cannot recommend him enough!! Please take your vehicles to Rene!

Literal lifesaver! My friend and I were unlucky and our car got hit with a large plank of wood on the highway. We quickly looked for an auto shop nearby and Rene was so kind and friendly to helped us out with our broken bumper and checked our car for us. Thank you so much!

My Honda Accord’s alternator died. I bought a new alternator and called Rene. Has was able to fix it in a few hours. Good price. Much much cheaper than other auto shops in Santa Cruz. He did a great job. I’d use his shop from now on.

We were in a pinch. My daughter needed to get herself and her car to Seattle within a week and it was running poorly. Rene found the issue quickly and was on it right away. i have nothing but great things to tell about rene’s autoshop. my car needed a new radiator and the dealers had up to a month wait. he ordered and replaced my radiator within 2 days. he kept me updated the whole time. he is such a nice guy and also told me the whole breakdown of the price as well. my car is perfectly fixed now and i will be recommending everyone to Rene. thank you rene!!! a true life saver

Just wanted to update: he did not warn me my tire pressure was low until I returned to ask about it. And he got extremely defensive once I did and did not let me speak just accused me of things. This is not a way to treat customers. I would allow a man off the street with a YouTube video to work on my car over him again. I let the people know who recommended this place how bad the service was and they will not be returning either. I would rate them lower if I could. I had an issue with my tire pressure before I left there after an oil change. I tried to ask if he rotated tires or anything other than check the air because one was leaking just to get a better understanding on why the tire pressure was going off right away saying it’s low. He got very defensive, wouldn’t let me speak and talked over me the whole time. His mood changed from being polite to very rude and treating me poorly as soon as I asked about the tire pressure. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to there with the way he treats his customers. Very disrespectful

Long story short we made it to Santa Cruz planned on staying for the day when the car started overheating we had radiator problems called renew he said tow it to me see what I can do by the end of the day before closing he completely changed a new radiator for us and also checked all fluids he literally is thorough and hopefully made it to his kids soccer ⚽ game on time thanku Rene!!your awesome 👍

My family and I drove across country and found ourselves stranded in Santa Cruz. Rene was the 3rd garage I called (1st two told me to get bent) and agreed to let me have my car towed to him. He was a life saver!!! Very proffesional and I would highly recommend Rene and his crew! He was very up front and let me know every step of the way on repairs needed and what it was gonna cost me. It was a big job and I'm pretty knowledgeable about engines myself, honestly I had a hard time believing that he would be able to get the job done right the first time and that the car would get my family back to Ky but fortunately Rene proved me wrong! Thank you Rene for everything buddy!
