I have been a customer for 20 years. Runge's receives my highest recommendation. I never met Ralph ... although we did speak on the phone once. His legacy lives on in Tim & Chuck!!!! These guys are the real deal. This is the place to be for any automotive need.

I had a great experience on my first visit (though my father in law took my car to get a ture replaced on time and had a good experience too). This place is affordable, and the customer service is good. It's family-owned and is run that way. I asked where to park, and they said anywhere out front (that was the most stressful part) and they'd move it. I didn't realize there was a lunch break 12-1, so I arrived and felt like I was bothering folks. Was still treated kindly. I don't know if it's the same lunch break every day.

Runge's is great. They're honest and reliable, a five minute walk from the red line, and if they can do something at a lower cost (repair as opposed to replace, or otherwise find out replacement is unnecessary) they'll let you know instead of taking advantage of your ignorance. I'll continue to frequent this garage until something changes that obviates my need for car repair or it becomes too cumbersome for me to get there. I recommend that anyone who owns a car find a good honest mechanic and stick with them. For people in the area, these guys are definitely it.

So glad I found this shop. Tim was able to get me in quickly to work on repairs. I really appreciated that, when they weren't sure the repair would hold, they told me to test drive it for a week before coming back to pay. When the initial repair didn't hold, indicating a separate problem, they were able to take the car back in no problem and resolve the issue. SUPER reasonably priced, too. And, for context, I have a BMW, so repairs are often expensive. Lastly, I also appreciated that Tim cared enough to tell me about common problems he's seen in BMWs, so that I would know to keep an eye out for those issues. Too tier service, overall.

I came here to deliver some parts and this guy by the name of McGee through my phone down on the countertop and to be honest I didn’t even realize it but it was two ladies standing at the counter as well saying that was wrong of him by throwing my phone down like that and I’m assuming he didn’t it because I was black

A family friend referred me and its been night and day compared to any other auto shop. I have friends that drive 30 minutes from downtown Chicago specifically to come here. No pressure on non-urgent repairs and very fair prices. Friendly staff and quick turnaround times!!

It was my first time here, Went in to get a ball joint fixed and part of my engine housing, the folks here did great work. The cool older dude behind the counter who I believe is Runge himself was awesome, he even threw in some clips for my heat shield. The prices are fair, and the folks are some straight shooters. Definitely the only place I'll take my car in the future

I swear they'd give you the shirt off their back if you asked for it. I've taken my car many times for random things because it's way more affordable than my dealership. Extremely nice and helpful. Updated 2024 If I could give more than 5 stars I would. There have been countless instances of service that go above and beyond in the 16 years we've lived here. Case in point, this morning (Saturday) at 8:30am, I get a frantic call from my 85 year old mother in law saying that her car suddenly pulled her off to the right and she's partially blocking traffic at Touhy and Clark. I called Runges and explained to Tim the situation and he said "I'll be right there". By the time I got to her, Tim and a service person were already manually moving the car off to the side (it was a broken tie rod). Minutes later he had it towed to the shop. And by 10:30 the car was back with my mother in law. Outstanding service! Thank you so much for the countless instances like this that you've taken care of my family. True heros in my book.

The best of the best! They always treat us like family, and there isn't a more honest and talented group of mechanics out there. They've seen us for everything from a flat tire to a stolen catalytic converter to our car getting hit by a CTA bus—extremely reasonable prices and consistently top-notch repairs. We always feel so taken care of by everyone here and will never go anywhere else. Whenever our car needs a repair, my four-year-old confidently tells everyone we know, “It’ll be okay - Runge’s can fix it.”

Yesterday I had gotten my Subaru Legacys Brakes, Rotors and also needed two rear Calipers replaced. They were fair, extremely welcoming and made my exprience as easy as it could in that situation. I had been looking for a local mechanic that I could trust and I think I found one. I would definitely recommend to anyone who needs work done. I have some more work I need done in the future and I will be routinely going to Runge for my car needs from now on.

Nice guys, have been to their shop on two seperate occasions and each time the pricing has been fair and turnover time is pretty quick. As someone who has little to no experience or knowledge of cars, I appreciate how they take the time to explain what’s wrong and are straightforward about the cost and timeframe. Loyal customer from now on, won’t be going to any other mechanic/garage in the future.

This is the worst place ever. My key wasn’t working anymore and the older man tell me “ sorry I can’t help you” almost screaming on my face. They are expensive, they don’t care about you but just about your money. Awful place and arrogant people.

It doesn't get better than Chuck Runge Auto and Tire. Talk about pure Chicago heart of gold. I brought my car in expecting to be paying thousands to hang onto my 2006 beloved Honda and he did some great advising and even topped off my fluid for free. So nice and his focus was my safety. I clearly love this place and I think you will too!

These guys are always so rude over the phone. If you go in person they may seem more pleasant, which is weird. prices are cheap but the customer service sucks.
