Irvin is the most honest mechanic I have met in my 40+ years of driving. In one instance, I expected the repair would exceed $1500. It turned out to be a small repair totaling $65. I would have never known the difference. I was referred to Irvin by my friend who lives in Northridge, who also is an avid car enthusiast. The fact that he drives in from so far is a testament in itself. I currently drive a late model, higher end vehicle which is still under warranty and I choose Irvin for my regular services as opposed to the dealer. I not only support an individually owned business, I also save quite a bit of money. I'm tired of the dealers excess charges for frivolous services Thank you Irvin!!

Irvin and everyone here have always been great to me, I always refer people in the area to get their oil changed here and for anything else they need - I just had my car broken into and had a window broken, I knew the cost would be less than my deductible, and my insurance tried to refer me somewhere to pay out of pocket... SMG did my repair same day and for less money than what I was quoted from insurance! Great service!

As someone who doesn't know anything about cars, I'm always worried about getting tricked into spending more money than I need to when I take my car into a shop. This place is very honest and trustworthy. I brought my car in because it sounded like something was loose and rattling. They checked it out for me and fixed the issue at no cost within a couple of hours. I wouldn't expect to bring your car in anywhere and have them do work for free, so I was blown away by their generosity. I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you're in need of a mechanic to inspect or work on your vehicle.

I was recommended to this shop by a friend. They are honest, fairly priced, and won’t try to upsell you on services your car simply doesn’t need. I was told by a different place that I needed to replace a dented oil pan for a costly fee. I took my car to SMG and they told me it wasn’t damaging my car in any way and nothing needed to be done. Everyone was patient and happy to answer all my questions. Irvin helped me figure out what size my tires were so I could order new hub caps, which they installed free of charge for me when I bought new tires. They’re the best I can’t recommend them enough. Everyone is so kind and does an outstanding job.

Don’t go here unless you want to be charged extra. These guys don’t care how much money you spend, there looking to break down your pockets to zero. Came in yesterday expecting an estimate on fixing my windows instead they charged me $100 and tried to charge me $500 for something that I could easily screw in. Mind you I spent over $900 just last week. These guys are just looking to run up as much as they can and if they think you don’t understand things. Instead of trying to help they will attempt to make you spend a bunch of money

Edgar and Irwin are great mechanics, their prices are fair and they are honest and prioritize customer service. We take both our cars their for regular service and their prices are less than half what the deale charges.

Two of the hardest things to find in Los Angeles are the following: a good parking spot and a mechanic you can trust. Thankfully, when it comes to Irvin and SMG Auto Repair, I've found the latter in abundance. I was referred to them by my boss almost 20 years ago and after my first repair, I've only gone to them ever since. I am not a car person at all and even with an older vehicle, they always take the time to keep me updated, give thoughtful recommendations and thoroughly explain each and every answer they give when it comes to my questions. I always feel appreciated and they've never once condescended (which I hear about other shops elsewhere.) I take my vehicle to these guys for everything from gas, oil changes, tuneups, major repairs and numerous issues that often go with owning an older car in a major city like LA. The point is, SMG Auto is the only place that I fully trust with my beloved car and my wallet and even though I'd prefer they remain a local best kept secret, these folks deserve all of the business they can handle. After doing business with them going on two decades, I cannot imagine trusting anyone else with my vehicle.

Overall service was fine. I had my brakes and oil change done which were reasonably priced. But I am truly disappointed with their dishonesty and how they approached and took care of the incident that happened during my service. I had a rare stone bracelet attached to my keychain and when I picked up my car it was missing. I asked one of the owners and he told me it wasn’t there from the start and he even remembered what it looked like from my last service. This was a very meaningful bracelet to me and I was truly bummed when it wasn’t there. I asked to be compensated and he said he will look for it once more. Next morning, l called again and he tells me he found it but the string snatched and he only had the beads. I was relieved he was willing to return it to me bc it was an expensive bracelet. But I thought this was kinda shady. Either they were trying to steal it or it broke and couldn’t tell me so they told me they don’t know what happened to it?!? If he told me hey I’m really sorry but I accidentally broke it I would have been mad but would be totally ok with it bc it’s fixable and I would have appreciated his honesty. I was really happy I found a body shop who I thought was honest and price was reasonable but after this it was truly disappointing. Not to mention they did not compensate me for my bracelet at all. I hope they learn their lesson from this and I hope they don’t ever do this to anyone else.
