Best experience I have had with auto repair in Portland bar none. After getting ripped off on a radiator replacement a few years ago it was my good fortune to find Specialty Auto Care. It was great dealing with Ron. He explained everything clearly and is very knowledgeable. His shop is Honda Certified and is the cleanest auto repair place I have ever seen. My Honda had to be towed in. This is how awesome my experience was. I was back on the road in two days which was ahead of schedule plus a part was a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the original estimate so it cost less than I was expecting. How many times does that happen these days. Not at my radiator repair shop who added a bunch of charges without consulting me. Ron and his crew did me right and will be mechanic from now on.

Unfortunately, we had a snake-like experience here recently. We brought our Honda Pilot in for new breaks. Shortly after they started working on it, we were told that the cost would be double their original quote for more work. After agreeing, we arrived at the counter to pay and were warned that the timing belt would need to be changed soon - another $1000+ fix. This wasn't an issue with the car before, and we started the car to hear a new sound under the hood coming from the timing belt. We told them about the sound immediately, and they said it was there when we brought it in, which isn't true. Now, they won't look at it without a guarantee of paying for the replacement service.. No apologies and a blunt tone from them (as if to say we're SOL), with no way to prove anything.. I don't feel good about the experience here, and will not return as a customer. UPDATE after Owner response on 5/15: Thank you for your response. However, this is exactly what I described above. Your response to this issue is more gas lighting and blaming me and the vehicle for the problem, instead of offering any kind of consolation or responsibility. We have two drivers that drove the car that same morning and both had never noticed any kind of sound from the engine belt. We told you this and you didn't believe us. Additionally, your initial response to the belt noise was to come out and tighten a few things under the hood and then tell us to drive it around. You said that the noise would "go away" after a few minutes. We drove the car off the lot after those adjustments and the sound disappeared. However, it quickly came back the next day. It's not acceptable customer service to be misleading about an issue and then blame me or the vehicle for the problem. It's true that the timing belt was probably getting ready to replace. However, the fact is that we only had an *immediate need to replace it *after we brought it into your shop and heard the new noise issue. You were not courteous in our communication about this issue and we will not return for more business.

Absolutely love & trust these guys! I always feel well taken care of, they are informative & helpful, and no b.s. I had just bought a subaru outback, within a month it started acting up. Took it to Ron & Jon, as they were ruling out what it could be, I fully trusted their care as they brought my subie back to life. Walking into specialty auto care, their team makes me feel like family with a few jokes & good sense of humor. Car troubles can be so frustrating, and so I truly appreciate their kindness. 🙏 I always highly recommend this shop to everyone.

These guys repaired my Toyota 4runner with a 22R motor, offenhauser intake, RV can, and Weber carb. I bought the 4runner and it had issues with the carburetor, at the time I did not know much about carburetor motors. This all changed when I stepped into their doors. They helped me get it running like a top, and even would give me advice after taking it home. their knowledge and expertise helped my vehicle run like it was new. I couldn’t recommend their service more for any Toyota enthusiasts with 22r motors. Any Toyota for the matter!

If you’re looking for a trustworthy auto shop, you’ve found it in Specialty Auto Care. I’ve brought my Toyota and Honda here for years and value so much the trust I’ve built with Ron and his team. They’re genuine and honest about the services needed and the services that could wait till your next paycheck. They go the extra mile for you (pun absolutely intended) when they run into challenges (like taking your car to another shop to fix the one thing they couldn’t at their own shop). I’m a diehard fan of Ron and the team, and I’m sure you will be too.

I cannot say enough good things about Specialty Auto. I took my older Nissan pickup truck to them for 6 years, and they did several pre-purchase inspections for me in the last few months as I was in the processing of buying a used Prius and selling my truck. They are thorough, friendly, helpful, professional, honest, and communicative. I really appreciate them and highly recommend them! 10 out of 10!

I take my 2016 Toyota Prius here for service and always receive top notch, honest work. I never feel like Ron and his team are over charging me or trying to up sell me additional work. Price is excellent for the care they take in each car service. Before taking my car to Specialty Auto, I was purely a dealership customer until I realized how dishonest they were when working on my car. It's honestly the best, and you know that is true as all my friends and family take their vehicles here now! You won't regret it!

Then had my car repaired in acceptable time and did a good job as well. The only thing I didn't like was the cost of the repair but when I asked for a veterans discount they did give me a 10% discount which helped me out a lot. Therefore I give Specialty Auto a 5-Star rating. They did tell me that they were no longer going to be working on Volkswagen's. So even though the tow truck driver recommended this place and they did repair my VW don't take your car there if it's a VW.

Was recommended this mechanic from a friend who also took their 2000's era Subaru here. I've had my 2001 Subaru Outback serviced here several times now for some general maintenance, as well as electrical, steering, and brake service. They are always super friendly on the phone to schedule or discuss findings/recommendations, thrifty in finding the appropriate parts quickly, and overall straight-shooters. Couldn't recommend more!!!
