We took our Hyundai Tucson in for some routine maintenance and a check engine light issue. 5 months and 3 trips later and the check engine light issue remains unsolved, the car is actually worse off, and the mechanics at True were awful at communicating with us. We wanted to support this local business but after 3 failed attempts at solving our issue and overcharging us - we are taking our business elsewhere.

The Staff @True Automotive of Decatur are so well spoken. However my concerns about doing business with them in dealing with my 2016 Volvo XC60 is very stressful to say the least. Since I moved to Georgia, they have been the only shop I used for my just about all my auto repair needs. Mitch normally assisted me with these. Here are the facts of our business w/dates including research pricing. You be the judge. 1. Misfire: 2/28/24… Mitch: Engine solenoids were sticking and one needed to be replaced; Me: OK • New Engine solenoid for my vehicle averagely priced between $25-$100 • True Automotive charged me(Parts & Labor); $498.32 2. Transmission Slip: 4/15/2024… Mitch: Transmission needs to be replaced; Me: OK, how long would it take because I would need to have a car until the work is fixed. Mitch: it’ll be done in a week. You have to leave a $3,000.00 deposit. Me: OK, I guess I’ll get a rental for a week. • Rental Car: $479.86 on 4/16/24… 04/19/2024… Mitch: We’re still waiting on the engine. The engine should be here by Monday so we will be done by the end of the week. Me: I got to extend my rental but the rental fees is expensive • Rental Car: $210.40 on 4/22/24… 04/25/2024… I called True Automotive for an update. Mitch: We’re going to need a few more days. Me: I got to extend my rental car again but the rental fees is expensive. I can’t keep paying these rental fees. • Rental Car: $275.52 on 4/26/24… 05/03/2024… I called True Automotive for an update. Mitch Again: Need a few more days. Me Again: Extended rental; • Rental Car: $291.04 on 5/3/24… 04/25/2024… I called True Automotive for an update. Mitch: Vehicle not ready. Me Again: Extend rental • Rental Car: $184.08 on 5/6/24… After numerous complaints of rental cost, Mitch offered me a loaner and a reimbursement for my last rental cost. Me: Accepted loaner; Vehicle was returned to me on 5/10/24. • Used transmission for my vehicle averagely priced between $200-$1,500, • True Automotive charged me(Parts & Labor) $5,927.00 after reimbursement ($184.08) 3. Transmission Slip: 5/20/24… I returned it to True Automotive. Mitch: We have to replace the transmission due to internal defects and offered me the loaner. Me: Accepted loaner; 6/14/2024… Mitch: Recommend transmission mount to avoid future issues with transmission; Me: OK • New Transmission mount for my vehicle averagely priced between $44-$240 • True Automotive charged me(Part) $490.30 Vehicle was returned to me on 6/26/24. 4. Misfire: 7/15/24… Mitch: Engine Coils & Plugs to be replaced. Me: OK • New Coils & Plugs for my vehicle averagely priced between $47-$142 • True Automotive charged me(Parts & Labor) $849.93 5. Misfire: 1/13/25… Me: I dropped my car off @True Automotive and spoke to Wes. I explained to him that since they performed the last repair that I had spoken with about frequent engine oil consumption and Mitch had suggested that there was internal leak issue. I even called Volvo for a possible recall concerning this issue as Mitch but to avail. Wes: Explained to me that there’s Coolant & Oil corroding the spark sparkplugs and suggested that the engine would have to be replaced. Me: OK • Used engine for my vehicle averagely priced between $2,100-$4200 • New engine from Volvo for my vehicle priced @ $9,700 • True Automotive quoted me $17,000 for Used engine & $24,000 for a New engine(Parts & Labor) It was this last quote that encourage me to research pricing in reference to conducting business with True Automotive and seek additional estimates for my current issue. Upon receiving additional estimates, I received quotes, None Exceeding $7,000(Parts & Labor). The Repair Shop I chose to currently conduct business with is charging me less than $4,500(Parts & Labor). What do you think?

1/2/2025 ***I had to update my review...Welp I'm a customer forever now! There was something else that needed to be done to my car and the service was just phenomenal and they gave me a loaner.*** I'll be returning for my oil changes and regular maintenance for my car. I paid for my transmission to get replaced with a 2-year warranty in full 3,384. I called Friday to see when my car would be ready. I was told early next week. I called today, and the advisor was rude and mad because when I asked if my car was ready, he told me no and that the tech started working on someone else car because my car needed an additional part, and he got upset with me because I asked him, where was the communication? Then he told me well, this isn’t a quick job I said I understand that, but I don’t understand the lack of communication. I asked to speak to the tech, and he said no, the tech doesn’t talk to customers, that's why I am here. His attitude and demeanor towards me was rude and uncalled for. How you get upset because I asked where was the communication with the delay. I picked this place because of the reviews, but after my encounter with that advisor, I should have picked another place with better service and employees with better attitudes. I pray at least my car is fixed properly. I will NEVER be returning to this establishment due to the service and attitude of that advisor.

Best mechanic I found so far in Atlanta. I had a loud knocking sound coming from the engine area. They found the problem and solved it and I had no problems since then. Reese and Spencer informed me daily on the progress and the pricing was very reasonable as well. I will definitely come back the next time my car needs a repair.

Excellent customer service, clear communication, and great work. Nice waiting area with coffee, Wi-Fi, and bathroom. Highly recommend! Edit: Have been back a couple more times because of such great service the first time and have been disappointed. Still nice people, reasonable prices, and a nice waiting area but have waited several hours for simple services like oil changes. Poor communication from management (estimating an ~30 minute wait for 1.5+ hours) and have had to ask about my car for it to appear a few minutes later with enough questions.

I had a wonderful experience at True Auto. The staff there were not only proficient and professional as well as friendly. They went the extra mile to make sure I knew exactly what was going on and what to expect in the future. I especially want to compliment a young lady named Reese on her performance. She was awesome.

I really appreciated Eric and the team at True Automotive Decatur. Eric went above and beyond to accommodate my special needs/requests. True Automotive also has a nice lounge area where customers can relax or work while waiting for their vehicles to be serviced. Coffee is even provided. True Automotive makes a great effort to create a comfortable environment for customers. I had a good first time experience there and I would certainly recommend them.

This location is the BEST! They did a big engine job on my VW. I really don’t trust anyone else touching my car. Not even VW dealerships. And that says a lot! ERIC & Spencer got me taken care of without hesitation. Eric was straightforward and professional. They already know they’ve got all my future business. :)

The folks at True Automotive are the best! I’ve been taking my 2011 jeep there for about 3 years now and they have helped me with every issue, given me solid advice, and kept me running smoothly! The best customer service - they reach out right around the time I should be scheduling my maintenance and make it so easy to drop off at my convenience - and they usually have great deals as well. The team is truly friendly and cares about you personally. The office is clean and has all you need if you’re hanging around for a few hours, and they even have a shuttle service and have offered me credit for Uber to/from the shop when they were performing some major work on the car. 10/10 recommend.

The place was very clean and everyone was very friendly. They lost me when they said I needed a new engine. It was running when I left it there. Then, all of a sudden, it's not running. Take it to another shop and it was my starter. Like, really? Smh

These folks are pros! I had a unique issue with motor and housing for top on my convertible E46. While a competing shop wanted 4 hours to install, Chris knew the exact process, removing old, and installing new in 45 minutes. Roof works great. Thanks again!

I appreciate the transparency in cost, determining which services are eminent versus which can be delayed until my next visit, and walking me through the timeline and process for completion of work.

Great experience all around. From the easy booking / reservation service on the website, the detailed texts and emails with mechanic findings so that you can see and select by priority the repairs needed, to all of the interactions with staff, it was a pleasure. Its hard to find mechanics that you can trust but I feel like you can rest assured True will do their best to be fair and timely.

I can’t say enough about TRUE Automotive! Everyone was very personable and helpful. I dropped my car off on a Friday, close to closing time and was still given so much courtesy. I knew EXACTLY what was going on because of the great communication! The lobby was also the CLEANEST I’ve ever seen! I believe I have found my repair shop. Thanks for everything😊

I highly recommend TRUE Automotive. The staff are very friendly and helped us get on our way as quickly as possible. Annie changed our brakes and thankfully caught that our alternator needed to be replaced as well. We have always had the best service!

Loved getting my oil changed there. They let you know what's going on with your car and you have the option to have services done or not depending on how high priority the service is for your vehicle. Mitch was super helpful and made the experience great. Will definitely be back!
